Long potentially sappy yap incoming.
You know, having worked on this game for last few years I have done a lot of playtesting my own content, internal alpha testing, team playtests, etc. I've probably "played" multiple thousand of hours of WoW: Forever at this point.
Since beta launched, I'd been playing it as much as I could, but it was sporadic. I managed to reach 20 on two characters doing that, so it was not an insignificant amount of playtime. However, I often times interrupt myself to go send a slack msg, or fix a bug when I notice things while playing, and it usually turns into work in one way or another after a few hours.
But yesterday, I just... played the game for a whole day in the beta. I'm talking 9 or 10 hours. Slack closed, off VPN. I just played.
And it was a full day:
- I got 4/5 pieces of the Fang set on my druid
- Crafted a sweet leather helm for her
- Finished leveling my forsaken pally to 20
- Finished up the last of my dungeon quests my warrior
- I met a hilarious and very irreverent paladin tank who I ran Wailing Caverns 3 times in a row with to try and get him the cape from Verdan, and me the fang boots from Serpentis (Neither of us got what we wanted)
- Did 2 dungeons with some guild members I haven't really spoken to or grouped with in 3 years or so
It was a transformative experience for me. I think yesterday was when it is really starting to actually feel real. It wasn't Blizzcon and how crazy that was, the reception to beta, the podcast, or anything like that. It was just "no lifing" the game for 10 hours and wanting more at the end. Honestly, I got a little emotional.
It hit me that the team really did it. I mean they DID IT. Yeah there's improvements and fixes to be made still, and there's feedback to act on (and stay tuned, we've got updates coming soon on some big feedback items). But all of that stuff aside, this is going to be a legendary launch, and the Forever team completely blew even my expectations out of the water.
I look at each loving detail or small secret, knowing who exactly put that there and thinking how we couldn't have done this without that person. Then I think of the brilliant things that person added that haven't been found or aren't available yet, and I get almost giddy with excitement for them.
I said a week or so ago that I thought we had something special here, and we do. I just can't believe the dumb luck that I get to be a part of this moment with such a once-in-a-lifetime team. It's wild.
Anyway, rambly sunday morning post. Have fun and be good to each other!

We were the indigenous people of Warcraft. We played the RTS, we made the custom campaigns and we played Vanilla.
Many of us fell off over the years because of the bullshit choices Blizzard kept making. Then Shadowlands and the infested activists took over. WoW no longer was WoW but an abomination wearing its skin as a suit.
We were the ones who pushed for Classic. We played the private servers who gave us what Blizzard wouldn’t.
Retail became the cozy game for idiots. Another victim in the long line of corpses of great fantasy RPGs.
But now they have made the game we asked for and this is their last and final chance to save the franchise we have loved for over 20 years. We will not be quiet. We will not go away. It is our game. You are welcome to join us in the fun and bring back that 2004 energy.
But make no mistake this is Classic+ not retail- and we like Arthas will purge every last bit that isn’t Warcraft from Forever or watch it burn just as Stratholme did all those many years ago.
I spent an hour having a look at wow twitter tonight while watching a movie on the couch.
The amount of people who talk about wowforever who legitimately have not cared or said a single word about wow in YEARS, but now speak as though they THE community & every opinion they have is 100% correct is insane.
The retail vs wowforever & the other way around crowds have become VILE & will push people away from the game faster than any feature added or not added IMO.

Been a retail players since vanilla. To be sure I quit it few patches ago and am moving to Forever. Excuse me for my final retail angry rant.
On behalf of all Warcraft fans like me:
Screw you retail team.
Screw you for destroying everything that made warcraft interesting.
Screw you for your disdain for conflict in Warcraft.
Screw you for destroying the Horde and the Alliance.
Screw you for destroying the Blood Elves
Screw you for destroying the Amani
Screw you for destroying Orcs, Night Elves and the Forsaken.
Screw you for your Paw Patrol level of storytelling.
You have been standing on the shoulders of giants and you screwed what you have been given so badly, you have almost, if not for the hope there is for Forever, singlehandedly destroyed a beloved IP that stood for decades into the ground. There is no excuse.
Screw you retail team. I hope they fire you for your incompetence.
I will never return to retail and I will carefully be vigilant to any of your bs in Forever. You don't deserve this fan base.

I totally get why people hate this, now. We wanted a grounded fantasy adventure. This is something fucking Thrall would ride around on, not the player character. We're meant to be nobodies. This is not "The world is the main character" kinds of additions.
Please rethink stuff like this, @AggrendWoW you can add tons of cool things to the game, but they must be grounded in that core conceit of making the world the main character. People riding around on this is not grounded in that fantasy of being a brokie adventurer getting his first mount.
The only place a mount like this is acceptable is if it's a super specific special mount like the Black Qiraji Tank.
Blizzard absolutely COOKED with the Spectral Wolf Pack mount in WoW Forever. 🐺🔥
This might be one of the coolest mount concepts they've ever made.
When you summon your Spectral Wolf, two ghostly wolves appear and run alongside you, forming your own little pack. But here's where it gets really interesting. Nearby party members can join your pack!
All they have to do is summon their own mounts, which then take on the appearance of Spectral Wolves while they're near the pack leader. Everyone controls their own mount and rides freely. No passenger seats, no shared vehicle. Just you and your friends roaming Azeroth together as a spectral wolf pack.
And even when you're riding alone, you still have two spectral wolves following you.
I absolutely LOVE this kind of creativity. You're not just getting a mount. You're becoming the leader of a spectral wolf pack.
We need more mounts like this in WoW!
I actually think they get it guys. I’m getting more excited by the day!
That PvP convo hit a lot of spots. These actually sounded like some guys who might understand the value of the /spit emote
Oh no… weeklies and seasonal rankings? Seasonal <> Forever
Interest just dropped by 55%
idk how i feel about the new pvp system.
Was the old one healthy? Absolutely not. 16-hour AV weekends, honor decay eating your progress, rank 14 basically a full-time job. The system was a meat grinder.
But that's WHY the title meant something. When a Grand Marshal walked into SW, everyone knew what it cost.
Forever's version: weekly-capped ranks, titles without the leaderboard, Legacy Points for showing up. Accessible? Sure. Prestigious? It wont be.
They didn't fix the grind. They just made the reward cheaper.

Couldn’t agree more, they need to bring back the ability to create female characters.
Also agree on the disabilities - more peg legs, missing eyes, amputees makes the war feel more violent.
The mage in the wheelchair felt a bit try hardish though and broke the immersion. That was whack

Vanilla WoW was packed with based characters. Thrall, Cairne Bloodhoof, Magni Bronzebeard, Uther the Lightbringer, Illidan Stormrage, Ragnaros. Epic fantasy archetypes of strength, honor, tragedy and power. Zero modern agenda. Pure high fantasy roster.

Zero. Vanilla WoW (2004) had no explicitly gay characters. Sexuality was rarely addressed at all. Close same-sex friendships like Quae and Kinelory existed but were never confirmed as romantic by Blizzard. Explicit LGBTQ NPCs and relationships only appeared in later expansions and novels.
It’s just shitty writing

Here's a freebie:
"I've heard... less than charitable things about paladins thus far in my travels. I can relate. Traveling through Horde territory, one would think they've never seen an elf before."
Fewer characters too.
It’s just corny and cringe and it demonstrates that management is focused on the wrong things and that the project is being influenced by the wrong people.
Leadership at Blizzard has had to work very hard to ruin their credibility (with a player base that WANTS to love them) by doing this sort of thing.
When these things pop up it does not inspire confidence.
Let us choose male or female characters damnit. Seriously WTF are you trying to prove or do or signal?
i have a real question @Blizzard_Ent and @AggrendWoW maybe you can answer it since i know you're doing a lot of the quests.
what was that change for? the initial NPC is a guy, what is the point of going back to vanilla content to make it become a gay quest? i am not against this kind of content, but why not a new quest? why changing what existed to "wokenise" it?
fine with the body type 1 & 2, that's stupid but fair enough. fine with the descriptions of trolls who went from tribe and savage to community leaders. but now even changing vanilla npcs gender to fit a narrative? come on.
i want wow forever to be good. and while this quest and those changes isn't what makes it bad, it does shows this "fit the narrative" that clearly pushed retail to become the game it became and why wow forever is so expected by players. i don't want the NPCs of wow forever to slowly become what khadgar became - no one plays wow to see heroic characters end up a on a magical flying wheelchair.
you're restarting from a clean slate, restart correctly, PLEASE.
