I am getting increasingly uncomfortable with the buildings being lit up, the gushing praise and the almost saintly status being bestowed upon Helen Haines.
Because none of that is going to help Helen. And frankly, it feeds straight back into this angels & demons narrative that has taken over everything.
Helen is a remarkable woman. But I reckon she’d be the first to tell you she’s also an ordinary woman, an Australian citizen who went to work on Monday and had her life torn apart.
She voted against the government’s NDIS changes. She’s been a strong ally to disabled people & now she faces a long recovery in which she may need many of the very supports she has fought to protect.
And what I want to know is whether she’s getting the best possible care in hospital. Whether there are enough nurses to nurse, without having to double as disability support workers. Whether ambulances are still ramped up the wazoo and emergency departments are bursting at the seams.
What I want to know is whether Helen will get the prosthetics, orthotics, wheelchair, home modifications & personal support she may need to rebuild her life.
And here’s a particularly cruel irony.
Helen is 65. Unless she was already an NDIS participant before her 65th birthday, she cannot access the NDIS now.
So who is going to fund and provide those supports? How many systems will she have to navigate? How many bureaucrats will get a say in what she needs?
I want Helen to have every possible opportunity to recover, to go home, and, all the Gods willing, to return to the life and work she loves. Without having to fight for every bloody thing along the way.
And I want to know why we are still so hopeless at preventing violence against women.
The man accused of attacking Helen reportedly had significant mental health concerns. His lawyer told the court today that he has a rare neurological condition. There have also been reports of chronic pain and difficulties accessing the NDIS.
We don’t yet know his motive or the full circumstances of his medical care.
None of that excuses what happened to Helen. Not one bit.
But nor should we ignore what happens when people with serious illnesses, disability, homelessness or drug dependency fall through the cracks of systems that are supposed to help them.
Mental illness doesn’t make someone a violent criminal. And women should not have to pay the price when someone becomes violent, whatever the reason.
I want women to be safe walking down the street. I want people who need treatment to receive it. And I want governments to stop waiting until somebody is dead or catastrophically injured before they take any of this seriously.
We are well past the tipping point.
And I’m sure the government will shortly announce another grand plan to fix the NDIS market, as though concentrating services in the hands of increasingly large corporate providers & private equity interests, while destroying jobs and choice, is somehow going to improve our lives.
It won’t help Helen. And it won’t help the thousands of other Australians already fighting to get the care they need.
The bitter irony is that Helen Haines & Jordon Steele-John, himself a survivor of violence, are precisely the kinds of politicians who understand what’s wrong with these systems and have been trying to fix them.
We need politicians from every side of politics working together to make things better. Not more theatre, not more political point-scoring, and certainly not more bloody platitudes.
I don’t object to people expressing their love & admiration for Helen. I share it.
But if we really want to honour her, perhaps we could start by making sure the systems she fought to improve actually work for her, and for everybody else.
Prevention is always better than remedial treatment.
And both are a hell of a lot better than thoughts & prayers.
You can light up every building in Australia.
But you can’t illuminate your way out of a broken health, disability & care system.
Wrote this, about the too much antisemitisms situation. It shouldn't be a thing. We need to stop it.
Alright, so,
When the world learned of the Nazis' crimes at the end of WW2, it was broadly agreed that "fighting antisemitism" was a good idea, as part of ensuring such atrocity would Never happen Again. Over time, however, the memory of the Holocaust has been eroded and distorted...
▫ Its true causes are misrepresented, reductively. Jewish suffering is portrayed as incomparable to that of any others at any time. Even, seemingly, the great many non-Jewish people who perished in the very same Holocaust, whose suffering is often not portrayed at all, who go unmentioned so routinely that many people are barely (if at all) aware they even existed.
▫ Nazi scapegoating of Jews is portrayed as unique and specific, rather than largely circumstantial. Antisemitism is portrayed as a uniquely terrible form of bigotry, requiring special attention and specific tools to address it. Thus the lesson that in similar conditions, other groups could be targeted just as harshly (as indeed *they were*, alongside the Jews), is lost.
▫ A simplistic popular understanding emerges: Hitler was a madman who just hated Jews so much he Holocausted them; and people helped him because he was very good at speeches and infected them with antisemitism mind virus; thus, "Never Again" = "fight antisemitism".
▫ That misses (what should be) the point. It is of disservice to humanity in the present and the future, and our collective interest in preventing such atrocities. Including those occuring right now.
But the memory of the Holocaust is and has for some time been exploited, for political and financial gain, and to deflect legitimate criticism of Israel and its crimes.
▫ Modern definitions of "antisemitism" primarily serve this purpose. This is bad.
▫ The "antisemitic" label, and the threat of it, are used to coerce, control, and silence; thereby influencing policy, and access to power. Thus, Western power structures are almost exclusively staffed by people who at least outwardly support Israel and the weaponised "fight against antisemitism".
▫ No-one is exempt, including Jewish antizionists and non-supporters of Israel, who if anything are attacked harder, with more spite (and special terms, self-hating, Kapo, etc), to defend exclusive ownership of the 'Jewish' brand, thus the authority to define antisemitism, and the fight against... antisemitism. Ironia chaya, innit.
▫ In response to outcry about Israel's ongoing genocide of Palestine, "fighting antisemitism" is now being used as direct justification for implementing increasingly authoritarian measures, egregiously restricting, prohibiting, and criminalising a wide array of actions and expressions.
▫ Most are aimed at silencing and punishing criticism of the horrendous behaviour of the Judeonazi state of Israel and that of its proponents and zealots. The ways in which these measures are being implemented and/or enforced are also cause for serious concern. This is unacceptable.
Israel's treatment of Palestinians, although far worse since 2023, has for decades included: systemic structural discrimination; dehumanisation; disenfranchisement; dispossession; arbitrary indefinite detention; execution; mass-slaughter; torture; organ harvesting; violence, in all of its forms, to every degree, with no limit. Read that again.
▫ It is beyond obscene.
▫ And, objectively comparable to Nazi persecution.
▫ Yet, the most widely used definition of antisemitism (IHRA working definition) *explicily* states that drawing any such comparisons is "antisemitic".
▫ And, Western countries continue to increase the scope and punitiveness of their responses to "rising antsemitism".
While the Holocaust of Palestine continues.
While the Holocaust of Palestine continues.
While the Holocaust of Palestine continues.
"Never Again", and the institutions and tools which were supposed to uphold it, have been *at best* useless. The fight against antisemitism has been twisted to serve the inverse of its intended purpose. What was created to prevent systemic persecution, is now used to silence criticism of systemic persecution; and as a pretext for its implementation.
▫ It is now a weapon of Jewish Supremacy.
▫ In active and increasingly heavy use.
▫ This is bad. It is a bad thing.
Nowhere in the world today are Jews subjected to systemic structural discrimination and oppression. Laws and regulations intended to protect all peoples from harrassment, violence, etc, already exist. If they are good enough for everyone else, why not for Jewish people? If they are not good enough for everyone, why not? Treating antisemitism as a special and vastly more important case is unnecessary; nonsensical; absurd; outrageous... and this would be so, were it only that simple, but it is so much worse:
▫ It is not used to fight antisemitism. It is used as weapon of Jewish Supremacy. It is used to silence and punish anyone who dares criticise those who support and comprise a Judeonazi apartheid state constantly perpetrating atrocities and subjecting its victims to systemic structural discrimination and oppression; and to bolster and further expand the power of Jewish Supremacists to impose their will on people and nations.
▫ It does not even protect Jewish people. It empowers Jewish Supremacists. It is weaponised against all others, including Jews, who reject hateful, violent, supremacist ideologies; and call for the upholding of human rights, international law, basic human decency...
▫ AND, this insane 'special treatment' causes resentment, which causes antisemitism to INCREASE. Jewish Supremacists aggressively insist that they are and represent "The Jews", so when people don't like their unbelievably obnoxious behaviour, bam: "antisemitism". Then, "rising antisemitism" is used to justify increased measures to "fight antisemitism".
▫ But it does not fight antisemitism. It empowers Jewish Supremacists, whose self proclaimed representation of all Jewish people; combined with the prevalence of ignorance of the distinctions and intersections between all the relevant groups of people; and the resentment caused by the special treatment and obnoxious behaviour of people who call themselves "The Jews", places all Jewish people, including decent, peaceful, antizionist, anti-Israel, non-genocidal Jewish people, at increased risk of [misdirected] backlash.
▫ It is circular. It is by design. It is well past time we stopped tolerating or giving anything to the *infinite* tantrums and crocodile tears and of those with vested interests in perpetuating this circus. It is well past time we stopped falling for this shit.
▫ White Supremacists scapegoating Jews. Jewish Supremacists scapegoating Muslims. It's the same thing. Again. It must be stopped. Now.
There is absolutely no valid justification for the status quo, let alone further encroachment of this profoundly dangerous capitulation to supremacist control.
▫ Reject and dismantle the obsolete and utterly corrupted concept of "antisemitism" and the "fight against antisemitism". Abolish their special status in law and in custom.
▫ Fight supremacism. Fight oppression. Fight genocide. Fight those perpetrating atrocities. Fight those materially supporting that shit.
▫ Literally.
The Holocaust of Palestine continues.
The Holocaust of Palestine continues.
The Holocaust of Palestine continues.

There was once a historical European hatred of Jews which led to a holocaust of Jews in Europe. But despite what you are being told, there is no sudden rising crisis of a hatred of Jews in the world right now.
What we do have a rising crisis of is a hatred of Zionism - the political ideology of the state of Israel. A state that is made up of majority white European settlers and rests on an ideology that is born of white supremacy and Jewish supremacy.
In fact, contrary to being a targeted minority group, Jewish identity hijacked and repackaged by Zionists has been proven in the last two years to be THE most protected identity by/in the West.
Due to the Zionist co-opting of Jewishness and weaponisation of Jewish suffering, paired with the enforced societal guilt of the Jewish holocaust (which is really just one of MANY historical atrocities yet given the most air time), Israel has not only been allowed to commit a genocide, but the self-proclaimed “Jewish state”, as well as Jewish-zionists who are advocating for the genocide, are continuously shielded from any moral backlash.
If you’re not new here, you already know the basics. The intentional conflation of anti-Zionism and antisemitism has served to distort reality, distract from the colonial goals of Israel, and manufacture consent for the genocide of Palestinians who are framed as “Muslim barbarians” fuelled by supposed “Jew-hatred”.
At the same time, racialised Palestinian lives have been systematically devalued with the carefully curated imperialist “war on terror” narrative and Jewish lives have been valued by their proximity to Europeanism and whiteness.
The part that many are still unsure and uncomfortable about, though, is how ‘Jewish exceptonalism’ and ‘Jewish supremacy’ tie into it all.
Jewish exceptionalism is the belief that Jewish people as a demographic are eternally and ontologically oppressed (the “eternal Jewish victimhood” argument), no matter the circumstances, and as such should be treated differently- and by differently, they mean special.
This is because Jewish exceptionalists refer to antisemitism as the “oldest hatred,” treating it as though it’s the ONLY kind of hatred powerful enough to make its targets a PERMANENTLY marginalized group. No matter how much power or safety they otherwise acquire.
This incorrect analysis fails to take into account the status of Jewish people in Canada, America, the U.K and Western Europe, and elsewhere over at least the past few decades.
“While Jews claim to remain the targets of alleged hate crimes (though reports on the issue vastly overstate the reality), they actually face no systemic discrimination and generally fare exceptionally well in Canada and elsewhere on all other markers used to measure oppression.”
And then, there is the Jewish exceptionalism that plays out in the employment sector, where one can criticise any group, any country, any war, any genocide, and their livelihood is likely to be relatively safe. But if one dares to criticise Israel (conflated as all “Jews”), they’re instantly accused of antisemitism, and their career is most likely finished.
Jewish supremacy can be defined as the structural and ideological hierarchies favouring Jews over non-Jews. For example, the Israeli Jewish human rights group B'Tselem in 2021 referred to Israel as ‘a regime of Jewish supremacy from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea’. From its late-19th-century origins, the Zionist project embedded an ethno-nationalist logic favouring Jews. The term has also been used to describe the way Jewish-Zionist rights, safety, and feelings are favoured above those of other groups in Western societies.
Jewish exceptionalists believe that Jews are eternal victims, and therefore Israel and anyone supporting Israel can’t be bad because it’s a “Jewish state.” And Jewish supremacists believe that Jewish people are superior to others, “the chosen ones” and therefore deserve special treatment and concessions…

Is this the freedom of expression America keeps preaching to the world? Truly sad.

"Democracy is applauded when it delivers govts aligned with Western interests. When voters choose the wrong people, democracy suddenly becomes optional. Coups, sanctions, dictators, invasions, then bewilderment when the puppet falls & something far more hostile takes its place".
The West has a remarkable talent for manufacturing its own enemies. Mohammad Mossadegh was Iran’s democratically elected prime minister. His crime was not abolishing elections or erecting concentration camps. His crime was insisting that Iranian oil should primarily benefit Iranians rather than foreign corporations. So Britain and the United States helped overthrow him, replacing democracy with the Shah’s dictatorship. Every lecture about freedom delivered since then has had to compete with the memory of 1953.
The pattern never really changed. Democracy is applauded when it delivers governments aligned with Western interests. When voters choose the wrong people, democracy suddenly becomes optional. Coups, sanctions, dictators, invasions, then bewilderment when the puppet eventually falls and something far more hostile takes its place. Western hegemony has spent decades killing democracy abroad, only to discover that the regimes it installs are eventually overthrown as well. Few geopolitical strategies have been so spectacularly self-defeating.

You should be screaming:
'COVID IS STILL DAMAGING KID'S HEARTS - WE MUST DO SOMETHING TO PREVENT IT!!!'
This is what happens when you interfere with the supply.
At no point do people ever not use the drugs.
Yep, every time you vote for criminalizing drugs you're voting to pay drug controllers to create all of the problems you're complaining about.
Replying to @drewcooks @iamkennethchan
You have that completely backwards.
Every time someone votes against drug stores selling safer drugs to people they are voting for "open-air drug sales" etc.
Because:
Drug bans do not ban drugs - they enforce sales of unregulated drugs.
People use this, instead of this, etc.
