A number of Blu-ray-related patents for Sony will be expiring between 2026 and 2031, ending their ability to collect royalties on physical movie and video game discsπ
This means audiences will be forced to rely exclusively on streaming platforms, if physical media is entirely phased out.
Blu-Rays and UHD Blu-Rays have a noticeably superior quality compared to digital/streaming counter parts, as the latter suffers lower video and audio quality due to higher compression.

I seriously find it hard to think what the selling point of Sony PlayStation 6 is going to be because going into that generation of consoles, here's what you're going to get:
> a $1000+ console
> closed ecosystem
> digital licensed games only with no ownership
> dynamic pricing (gamers that spend more, get less deals than gamers who spend less)
> Definitely not Physint and OD
> a slow start to the new generation of consoles with very few exclusives, potentially taking years to take advantage of them
> probably lots of remasters
Will it flop? I don't think so
Sony messed up real bad back when they launched PS3 at a ridiculous price point after they got ahead of themselves but that console still sold quite well.
However, the first few years are going to be a rough sell due to increased hardware prices and ignoring their fanbase.
Currently, there is no justification for the average gamer to upgrade other than owning the console early (the first new games coming out will also be available on PS5) and I think that gamers will hold off until the prices go down, which will also force Sony to re-evaluate their decisions.

Ubisoft and Square Enix appear to be opting out of Microsoft / XBOXβs disc-to-digital conversion systemπ
Players attempting to redeem digital access for their physical games by Ubisoft and Square Enix are unable to proceed with the redemption process.
It appears that the two entities arenβt either:
A) Not interested in the all-digital future
B) Not interested in missing out on digital sales, and refuse to give players a free digital copy just because they a physical one
C) Theyβre still arranging for the process
We need to keep up the pressure, because if it is option B, then when the next generation ends up launching as βdigital onlyβ you will have to re-purchase all your physical games from these studios, and others who might choose to opt out of this program
Do not give up on game ownership
Do not cave in to the cheap attempts to demoralize you into thinking your voice doesnβt matter
