Melville heads lets get together and start the eighty epigraph trend (it goes on for nine more pages and he eventually starts making them up)
I’m certain that others have noticed the popular “two epigraph” trend, in which the first is something esoteric, perhaps from poetry, philosophy, or poetry, and the second is current and quippy. I’m trying to figure out how it emerged, and what the underlying motivations are.

As much as they were loved in life, they are loved in the afterlife 🤍 for love is infinite. Cemetery’s are places I like to frequent, cause they take you out of the chaos that might be happening in our everyday lives. They’re so quiet & peaceful

Anyway, Moby Dick rules. countercraft.substack.com/p/…
Sorry this is very embarrassing. Why write about a literature you haven't read at all? American novels have one of the strongest comedic traditions that runs from Mark Twain to Percival Everett. And if you don't Moby-Dick is hilarious you should probably try reading the book

this essay is incredibly cool if you read it like a Borges story, idk if it’s good anthropology or whatever tho
beautiful, mind-bending piece by T.J. Clark arguing that palaoelithic art like the chauvet caves were a reaction to the rising hegemony of language over thought — a counter-proposal that attempted to dissolve the linear, hierarchical structure of language lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v48/n14/…
