Motorsports falls under the banner of extreme sports, much like cave and deep diving, snowboarding, skydiving, surfing, kitesurfing, parasailing, and many others.
As with all these sports, the inherent risks are understood and accepted by both the athletes and the governing bodies. Athletes participate voluntarily and understand that, despite all necessary safety measures, incidents can happen and they bear responsibility for the risks associated with participating in the sport.
That said, the association is fully prepared to deal with incidents within the motorsporting environment. This incident demonstrated exactly why those safety measures are in place. The rider was retrieved from the water in under seven minutes, immediately placed in an ambulance, and transported to the hospital. Had this been an ordinary road accident, the circumstances and response could have been very different.
We applaud the hospital and MNDF personnel who were available to us and acted swiftly when their assistance was required. The rider was wearing a full racing suit, as required by the association’s safety standards, which helped protect him from more serious injuries. Thankfully, apart from the leg injury, he did not suffer any fractures.
Yes, we can all agree that our hospitals need better preparedness for trauma cases. But the same type of incident could have happened outside a motorsport event. What would the argument be then? This is not an issue unique to motorsports.
There is absolutely no sport extreme or otherwise where accidents or medical emergencies can be completely eliminated. We have seen athletes collapse on football pitches and, tragically, people lose their lives during sporting activities.
The answer is not to blame the sport. The answer is to ensure that proper safety measures, emergency response procedures, trained personnel, and appropriate medical support are in place and that is exactly what the association is committed to providing.
Today, we take another huge step forward in developing motorsports in the Maldives! 🏁

This is extremely concerning. We fully support the association, and we urge Minister @AbdhullahRafiu to address the issue that has been irresponsibly created.
Interfering with international bodies for political gain damages the reputation of the entire Maldives.

RAM has been the FIA-recognized national body for motor and racing sports in Maldives.
In an attempt to replace RAM, Sports Minister @AbdhullahRafiu sent a letter to the FIA "granting" recognition for a group linked to the govt.
That’s unlawful and violates FIA procedures.

With more than 150 young people in the room, we were delighted to host speakers from across our Federation.
Students were also given the opportunity to try out our state-of-the-art simulators, and test their reflexes on the track.

Often, people ask what Racing Association of the Maldives (RAM) actually does.
What started as a small team of enthusiasts with a single goal—to sustain motorsports in the Maldives has grown into something far greater. Our mission has always been to pave the way for young individuals to enter the sport and gain global recognition. With that mindset, we have achieved a great deal, and our recent affiliation with the FIA is proof that we are heading in the right direction.
RAM has transformed the motorsports landscape in the Maldives. We have redefined the sport, creating opportunities for others to thrive. We have expanded beyond the capital, opening doors in the islands where motorsports had little to no presence. More people now believe they can contribute to the sport, and motorsports is no longer centralized in just one city.
We are witnessing a surge of new talent emerging into the sport. Clubs in various islands are now hosting their own events, making motorsports a year-round activity instead of something that happens only twice a year. Seeing this growth is a source of pride for us, but our journey is far from over.
The golden generation of talent from the time I started racing has long passed. Our focus now lies on the youth, developing the next generation of athletes who will compete on the global stage and represent the Maldives in world championships. We have high hopes and full confidence that we can make this vision a reality.
None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of our sponsors and partners. Your contributions have not gone unnoticed. This is the vision we have always discussed in our meetings taking the sport to the next level. You believed in our mission, stood by our side, and helped turn our dreams into reality. Thank you for being a vital part of this journey.
This affiliation with the FIA is a true testament to the dedication and hard work of many individuals our Executive Committee, members, government officials past and present and all those who have supported the growth of motorsports in the Maldives. A special thanks to former Youth Minister @AhmedMahloof , whose support was instrumental in the success of the sport.
To everyone supporters and doubters alike, thank you. This achievement is the result of all of us coming together to push motorsports forward. The best is yet to come!

Hello Mabrook, we (RAM) have been pushing that idea to every government since 2004 but non have had the thinking of bringing sports tourism to this country. We had investors whom were ready to invest too but land wasnt provided. The government’s dont know the good impact if we have opened our country for motorsports Internationally. F1 is a huge sport and there are many rules and regulations we have go through to get it approved. But can be done. Their are many international events we can bring here too, easier then F1/MotoGP and still would generate alot of revenue.
Racing Association of the Maldives (@RAM_Maldives) have been steadfast in sustaining motorsports throughout Maldives over the years. We been working tirelessly in getting a permanent track, we have our very own talents who could ride in International huge events. Not only cars but bikes too.
We did get a allocated land in previous administration through alot of hardwork but now again we are in a situation where we must start the circle from trying to convince how broad this sport is in the country and that we need a space.
Yes, Maldives can be a attractive and business oriented destination for Motorsports, but will the governments ever think outside the box?
