Arnold Ventures is encouraged by the growing momentum behind efforts to reduce costly, unnecessary incarceration for technical parole violations in New Jersey.
Smart, evidence-based policies like The Substance Abuse Recovery & Accountability Act can strengthen communities and focus correctional resources where they're needed most.
Supervision should help people rebuild their lives, not send them back to prison for struggling with addiction.
Right now in New Jersey, too many people are reincarcerated for non-criminal rule violations tied to substance use disorders, instability, or barriers to reentry instead of getting the support they need to stay on track.
The Substance Abuse Recovery & Accountability Act would shift the focus toward treatment, recovery, accountability, and successful reentry while giving officers the tools to support the rehabilitation of people on supervision.
It’s time for a smarter approach that strengthens public safety and helps people move forward.
New Jersey can do better. Sign the petition and urge New Jersey lawmakers to pass the Substance Abuse Recovery & Accountability Act. tr.ee/uKqnZnr3AI

Lots of cool stuff happening in Virginia today.
This is quietly a big deal. @VADOC probation officer caseloads will go from 98-1 to close to 65-1 because of this law.
That’s a huge improvement for public safety and employee morale!
Proud to have worked on this w/@REFORM!!
🏆 Virginia just changed the game for 53,000 people on probation.
Starting TODAY, SB 136/HB 149 is officially in effect.
If you're on probation in Virginia, you may be eligible for early termination after 12 months if you are:
✅ Complying with your supervision conditions
✅ Demonstrating rehabilitation by maintaining employment and stable housing, pursuing an education, completing vocational training, and/or participating in treatment
✅ Presenting minimal risk to the community
Talk to your probation officer to find out if you qualify.
This win belongs to the community that fought for it. Huge thanks to the Virginia Safety Coalition and our incredible partners for making this possible:

We are honored to help reunite 50 mothers with their children this weekend. As a mother, I cannot imagine being away from my babies and some of these women haven’t seen their kids in decades due to the expense of travel. @KimKardashian @REFORM @thelohm @EdyHaney
"So many of these mothers have spent years away from their children and families, missing birthdays, holidays, and everyday moments most of us take for granted," she continued. "I’m honored to partner with REFORM and LOHM to help reconnect these families so they can hold their children, laugh together, and simply be a family again.” @KimKardashian

Exciting news from VA!! As a former probation officer, I’ve seen people work incredibly hard to rebuild their lives while on supervision. When someone has done everything right, there should be a clear path forward.
This bill recognizes that progress, encourages personal responsibility, and reflects a simple truth: accountability and second chances can go hand in hand.
🎉 IT’S OFFICIAL: HB 149 / SB 136 has passed the VA General Assembly.
Now it heads to @SpanbergerForVA's desk to be signed into law.
If signed, this bill creates a clear path to early termination for people who have worked hard and done everything right while on probation—complied with the conditions of their supervision, maintained employment, completed treatment, and demonstrated they are not a public safety risk to the community.
That means:
✅ Individuals are empowered to earn their way out of the system
✅ Probation officers can focus on higher-risk cases
✅ More Virginians can participate in the workforce
✅ Public safety resources are directed where they matter most
Governor Spanberger, let’s finish the job. 💪

Over-supervising low-risk individuals doesn’t make us safer — it stretches the limited resources of the justice system and wastes taxpayer dollars.

When someone takes responsibility for their actions and makes genuine efforts to rehabilitate after an offense — by working, seeking treatment, supporting their family, or repairing harm — that should matter. The U.S. Sentencing Commission’s proposal is a commonsense step toward a system that rewards responsibility and protects the public.
