If my kids ever ask how one person can change the world, I am gonna tell them about the time a racist Railroad Commissioner accidentally turned Texas blue.
Tonight wasn’t the night our campaign had hoped for. To everyone who stood alongside us, gave your time, and believed in what we set out to accomplish, thank you. I will never forget your dedication, your friendship, and, above all, your love for the great state of Texas. As Thomas Jefferson once wrote, “I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past.” My dreams for Texas and America remain undiminished, as does my faith in the indomitable spirit of the people of the Lone Star State. I’m not going anywhere — because we have work to do. Onward.

What younger ppl might not know is that Tucker Carlson used to be a typical conservative. Sure, he was a little edgy (in 2000 he caused a stir by insinuating the death penalty was morally correct). But he - like ALL of us - is trapped in a silo in which fringe is normalized.
🚨🚨 Tucker Carlson kvetches that the British government "never apologized" for interning Oswald Mosley and "the whole leadership" of his movement during World War II. Mosley led the British Union of Fascists. He married in 1936 at Joseph Goebbels' home in Berlin, with Adolf Hitler as a guest. Carlson calls them "members of the opposition party." The British Union of Fascists never won a single seat in Parliament. Meanwhile, Carlson defends Vladimir Putin's Russia, where opposition leader Alexei Navalny died in an Arctic penal colony in 2024, and criticizing the army can carry 15 years in prison.

I hope we can all acknowledge that the "I don't care about a leader's character as long as he's good on policy" experiment has been an abysmal failure. Character must count. We've seen the consequences when it doesn't.

America is healing. BOTH the party masses are leaning away from their worst conceits.
Brutal new poll for Republicans from @EchelonInsights: Only 34% of Rs consider themselves primarily a supporter of Trump, versus 56% who say they're a supporter of the GOP. That number has completely reversed compared to January 2025 (59% Trump, 36% GOP)

Thread: Two different versions of this AI-generated image purporting to show President Trump and his assistant Natalie Harp kissing went viral this week, generating millions of views across multiple platforms. Despite being fake, this wasn't a straightforward AI image to debunk. I'll try to explain why in this thread, and hopefully shine some light on the increasingly complex world of verification in the age of generative AI, which is only set to become even more complex and difficult.

Any theory of the Baby Boom needs to be able to explain why birth rates rose dramatically between 1933 and 1943. Why were birth rates rising when we were in a Depression? Why were birth rates falling during the good times of the 1920s? You can't just point to post-WW2 factors
WHEN YOU REALIZE THE BABY BOOM WASN'T JUST SOLDIERS COMING HOME HORNY. It was soldiers coming home to the GI Bill free college, 0% down home loans, low-interest business loans. It was strong unions. Pensions. A house that cost 2 years of salary. It was confidence that the future was actually going to be better than the present. That's what produced a baby boom. Not romance. Security. You want a higher birth rate now? Give people a future where they know their kids will actually be okay. That's the whole formula. It's not complicated. It's just expensive, and nobody in charge wants to pay for it twice.

If like Warren G Harding said this about Italians or whatever it would be the one & only thing kids ever learned about him. Taft and the bathtub kind of vibes.
Trump on Somali-Americans: "They're not smart. They have no aptitude. They have nothing going."

Big news from @WSJ + @lilybellepoling: NYC added 38,682 homes last year — the most in a single year since 1965. Construction is falling nationwide, but here it's booming. This is what happens when you change the rules to let housing get built. wsj.com/real-estate/new-york…

Imagine if Zohran Mamdani had misquoted the Declaration of Independence in his 4th of July speech. We'd get a hundred threads about how this proves yet again that immigrants aren't real Americans and shouldn't be elected to public office
Trump: And as our Declaration of Independence tells us, we are all made in the image of one almighty god. And a communist will never say that.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Declaration of Independence does not say "we are all made in the image of one almighty god." It states that "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights." archives.gov/founding-docs/…
