Warriors assistant Kris Weems on Jonathan Kuminga: "What I would tell him all the time is, 'You gotta do some of the things that you don't want to do to do the things that you want to do.' And I donโ€™t think he really understood that. Steve [Kerr] was asking, like, run the floor, get to the corner, and everything. But JK wasn't absorbing how important playing off the ball was for us. [Wiggins] figured it out... He started to figure out the pin-ins, and how to attack, using [Stephen Curry] as the decoy. JK just was like, 'Just give me the ball, man.'" Props to Podz defensively on these possessions: 1. Stays home on the strong-side corner 2. Stays disciplined one-on-one against J-Mac

Podz displays the natural counter to the switch, especially one where the switch happens topside. Cuts, draws in the defense, kicks to Niang for the three.

Draymond Green: โ€œ(Brandin Podziemski) was really really good. The force he played with. Plus-33, thatโ€™s nuts. Weโ€™re all talking about Yaxel and thatโ€™s great. He was incredible. But him and BP carried the load.โ€

Yaxel getting advice from three hall of famers is so dope! love this guy!
Steph on Yaxel: "He's just got composure and feel. He's a matchup problem, but he's never really in a hurry. Kind of the full package"

Dubs go to an inverted PnR for Yaxel set by Podz, gets the switch onto Murray. Defense slants toward Yaxel. Peep at Melton setting the pin-in for Podz on the weak side. Yaxel finds Podz and he drills the three.

Perhaps the most egregious example of Yaxel's wanting weak-side defense came from the very first possession of the Grizzlies game, as shown below. (Shoutout to @bylucaevans, his coverage has been my favorite to follow so far.)
Steve Kerr on Yaxel Lendeborg defensively: โ€œHis weak-side awareness right now is very poor. And with his size, he should be one of our best defenders at the rim. And right now, heโ€™s unaware on the weak-side.โ€

Yaxel talks about how Podz has helped him so far: "Oh honestly, I mean just trying to keep my head up because [Podz] is dealing with so much adversity as well himself and I'm starting to get the same heat, so I mean just trying to go through it with a smile and know that it's us in the locker room no matter what is going on. As far as like simple reads as well, he tells me about it on-court right away. Today as well, I started being aggressive. He gave me that opportunity to make the 3 in the corner, dapped me up right away about it. So, you know he's just giving me good energy and that's all I've been asking for honestly, just good vibes."

Steve Kerr on Luka Doncic going 1 of 5 with Yaxel Lendeborg as the primary defender: โ€œWho the fuck cares. They scored 127 on us. All that stuffโ€™s bullshit. Itโ€™s OUR defense, and he knows that.โ€

Podziemski had a $17m free agent that was counting against the cap. No significant loss in cap space since year 1 likely starts at $18.9M. Golden State still could have up to $55-60m in room next summer.
Just in: Golden State Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski has agreed to a five-year, $110 million fully guaranteed rookie-scale contract extension, agent Bill Duffy of WME Basketball tells ESPN. The deal includes a mutual option in the fifth year (2031-32) and a trade kicker.

Steph said that as he starts his 18th season he only really remembers two preseason games. When Lindy Waters hit a buzzer beater in Hawaii a couple years ago โ€” and when Kobe gave him some respect after he hit a shot over him in Ontario, CA.

Joe Mazzulla on reports of the Celtics vibes being high at training camp "Every team you lead is the most together team right now. Because we haven't traveled. No one's gotten benched. No one's been on a losing streak. No one's gotten blamed in the media. No one's had to go stand in the corner for 10 minutes and not get the ball. So, you learn those things as the season goes on, and you just learn how to work through those things together. And you can't simulate those. It just comes with time. And so, right now I would say all 30 teams feel great about themselves, and we got to wait till adversity hits. And adversity is even a strong word. There's nothing really adverse about playing in the NBA. But we got to wait until stuff doesn't go your way, and then you got to figure out who we are and how we're going to be at our best." For 27/28: if all options were declined, Richard was waived, and all Free Agent rights were renounced (excluding Podz), Warriors would generate $64.8M in cap space.

Iโ€™ve got the Warriors projected to generate up to $64 million in cap space for the 2027 offseason with Stephen Curry on that starting salary. Max cap slot for the 2027 offseason = $61.6 million.
The extension is $20M less than what Curry was eligible for. The first year of the extension is $55.7M. The savings will give Golden State significant spending power next summer.
