And you push it down. You lose a piece of your soul, you lose a piece of the innocence that you could have had in a world where the walls were defended, and the barbarians far away. But you push it down. And you fight. Because you have to. No matter who you are. The woman is this picture is 14 years old. By our customs, that makes her still half a child. But she is protecting her little sister. Who is 12. If you ever want to see a woman become a full, responsible, tough, assertive adult, you show her a child in danger. So this isn't a child. Not in this picture. Not at this moment. Nonsensical as the phrase may seem, this is a 14 year old woman. That's the sacrifice she had to make. Wherever she is right now, she's afraid, perhaps sobbing her eyes out. She knows they are going to make an example of her. But she made another kind of example of herself. Learn from that example. Men are to women as women are to children. As she became a woman by defending a child, you must become men by defending her. I don't care if you'll "get in trouble". She knew she would "get in trouble". And she loved her little sister enough to stand her ground anyway. Who do you love? Do you love her? She deserves your love. Do you love your family?
