CROSS COUNTRY | Both Lubbock Southcrest Christian's boys and Shiner St. Paul Catholic's girls won their third straight TAPPS 2A state championships today in Waco. Southcrest has now won eight of the last 10 TAPPS 2A boys titles, while Shiner St. Paul has captured 12 of the last 14 TAPPS 2A crowns. Southcrest Christian junior Lucas Higgins won his first state title after finishing third a year ago. Xander Gonzales, a freshman, was second with junior teammate Caleb Johnson in third (and who was fourth overall last year.) A pair of freshman took the top two spots in the girls race as Hallettsville Sacred Heart's Caroline Lemonds won the race by five seconds over Houston Second Bapist University Model's McKinley Rocco. Baytown Christian Academy sophomore Paityn Carrier finished third overall for the second straight year, doing so in 2A this year instead of 1A in 2025. Skylar Mozisek led Shiner St. Paul with her third consecutive All-State performance, finishing fourth overall after being in third and seventh the last two seasons. Decatur Victory Christian Academy's girls team finished second overall after fifth-place finishes the last two years. Prior to 2024, Victory Christian were long-time members of TCAF (Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship).
