One word. Microtransactions. Great response kyle. I also believe the architecture of shared canisters is also consequential for scaling cost efficiently.
Improving architecture reduces costs, but it doesn't solve the economic model.
If Web3 social wants to be different from traditional social, relying on advertising isn't the answer. Subscriptions also put a significant burden on users, especially when they don't have meaningful ownership.
I believe microtransactions are the way forward.
Let users pay small amounts for what they actually use, give them the option to own and manage their own canisters, and subsidize onboarding with rewards.
Then build multiple revenue streams that continually replenish the rewards pool.
The challenge is front-loading those costs until adoption and revenue reach meaningful scale.
But if you get the economics right, you can create a self-sustaining social ecosystem where users participate in the economy instead of simply being monetized by it.
Once the model proves sustainable, you can gradually transition governance and ownership to the community through a DAO.
Build something that works economically first. Then give the people who make it valuable a stake in its future.
That's the opportunity I see for Web3 social.

OhShii’s next step is to help projects launch with both DAO governance and the resources to keep their canisters running. 🔋⚡️
We’re preparing to introduce the Proof of Useful Burn concept into the DAO launch process: converting up to 1,000 ICP per launch into a reserve of cycles that the DAO can use to fund its canisters.
The ICP is burned during conversion, while the resulting cycles remain available to support ongoing operations.
This brings infrastructure funding into the launch itself, giving communities a practical foundation for building and maintaining their projects over time.
🔎 We’ll soon share details of our upcoming code review, including how to participate. DAO launches via LGE and several other features will remain disabled throughout the review, with activation subject to its results and any necessary fixes.
We’re also preparing a streamlined way for eligible tokens launched outside OhShii to access its DAO governance tools. Other launchpads will be able to integrate governance canister deployment directly into their token creation interfaces, with a lower deployment fee for users than the standalone option.
The goal is to make these tools accessible to communities across ICP, wherever their token journey begins.

Current output is 64×64 single-step (beta) — the breakthrough is that it runs fully on-chain and verifiable, not the resolution. Higher res is on the roadmap.
