Ocarina of Time remake nearly had fast travel, but Nintendo removed it.
Eiji Aonuma revealed that he asked devs to add fast-travel similar to Breath of the Wild, so players could move around Hyrule more quickly.
But after trying it out, the team realised that fast travel made players miss small discoveries and interesting things along the way.
“We were missing out on the moments of discovery that came from stopping along the way and wondering, ‘Wait, what’s this?’”
He removed the feature because on-foot exploration is key to the original experience.

Why do people think Nintendo has to slap DLSS on every Switch 2 game just because it's there?
Seeing complaints that Ocarina of Time is using FSR 1.0 instead of DLSS proves how misunderstood this tech is. DLSS is supposed to be used to bail out games when the visuals are too heavy for the system—if the base resolution is already high, FSR 1.0 keeps motion crisp without AI ghosting.
Plus, DLSS is really built for realistic games. Nintendo uses custom art styles, sharp outlines, and unique visual effects that the AI can't properly track from frame to frame. Forcing DLSS onto a stylized game just confuses the upscaler and leaves blurry trails and weird smudges over clean artwork, which nobody wants to see.
"I felt that this contrast was what gave The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time its mysterious, almost dreamlike charm. So for this game, we wanted to rebuild Hyrule as a rich, dense world that felt as though it could truly exist, while retaining the feel of the original. At the same time, we wanted its colorful and quirky characters to feel like a natural part of that world. Figuring out how to strike the right balance became one of the main themes of the art development."
