Orion spread across the sky
A huntsman so inclined
And I, strewn across your blackened breast
Count the scatterlings of light
While rest and madness
Joined in flighty paradox
Dance tomorrows into broken sight and loss
There is something about virtuosity which repels me. Where there is a focus on the performer, the skill, talent, originality or grandiosity of the execution in stead of letting the art or music speak for itself as an instance of deep and stirring consequence, something which quickens the soul, which drives the senses to a undeniable encounter with beauty and greatness that far exceeds any single performance or reception.
The problem i have with Klein bottles is that there is no grain (global orientation or a nowhere-zero vector field) that forces the vector. So energy will just pool in the most entropic part of the shape (Hairy Ball Theorem)
This is part of my general gripe with GR. You can invent all sorts of fanciful shapes and effects, but thermodynamically it just doesn't work out... You can cheat time but not entropy. Entropy always wins.
I think the clash between GR and Thermodynamics is actually worse thsn GR and QM
Broken thistles in the bloom
And stray discourse
Musing
Time wrapped around
And around
Like old cellophane
Colours fading
Perhaps never there
Grease-stain yellow windows
Winking
Watching
I'll hum a song for you

Today Physical Superintelligence PBC is announcing a proof of the Aaronson-Ambainis conjecture, one of the central open problems in quantum complexity, with major implications for quantum computing speedup.

Pressure and temperature are names for the effect of the phenomena not the cause or source of the phenomena itself
Particles do not dissolve per se, they become the traceable histories of the smallest actions or work of the universe
Limited observer is a dead end and a mythology. Only observance you need is of the quantum as "work being done". The only point of view that counts is that of the quantum. This POV is the only one that truly exist, as all and any other is only a massive compounding collection of it.
Intelligence, consciousness, awareness, are all just different operating levels in the mind, and different predictive applications
The digestive system is conscious, just as your whole body is and every single cell. Consciousness compounds into directed systems
Anesthesia lowers the brain energy. There isn't enough energy for the normal conscious processes. Your brain is on standby and life support only. There is no active 'you'. The trauma is real. There is damage to the body. This is a massive energy deficit that remains after surgery. The body needs to heal
Pressure and temperature don’t really exist, says my guest, mathematician and physicist @getjonwithit.
Look at water closely enough and there is just molecules bouncing around. We invented those properties because we can’t see individual molecules.
Other key moments from our conversation:
>A galaxy-sized intelligence wouldn’t know what we meant by “temperature.” It could track every particle. It would never need our equations. Jonathan thinks all of physics is like this, with space, time and particles dissolving at high enough resolution.
>Relativity and quantum mechanics both came from one realization: the observer is part of the universe, under the same limits as the thing being measured. Once you ask what a limited observer would actually see, both theories become unavoidable.
>Intelligence and consciousness may work against each other. Far more sensory data arrives than your brain can process one piece at a time. That’s why it batches that data (pain, pleasure, the color red etc). AI might become less sentient as it gets smarter, because it stops needing the shortcuts.
>Jonathan says his digestive system is probably conscious. It has enough neurons to model the world and has the same bottleneck as the brain. It just can’t speak (reminded me of Michael Levin).
>General anesthesia may not actually knock you out. As best we understand it, anesthesia makes you calm, paralyzed and unable to remember. It turns off the conscious part of you from the part that can report. This would explain why so many people have PTSD from surgery.
