THREAD: GREAT LAKES PEACE IN VAIN WITHOUT WOMEN AT THE TABLE- SPEAKER OBOTH::::::::::: WHO: Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth, with women parliamentarians and delegates from the 12 ICGLR member states. WHAT: The opening of the Women Parliamentary Conference 2026, under the theme “For a Peaceful and Developed Great Lakes Region.” WHEN: Monday, 2 November. The conference runs until 5 November. WHERE: Julius Nyerere International Conference Centre, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. WHY: “Lasting peace in our region cannot be built without women at the heart of leadership and decision-making,” the Speaker wrote on X. “Conflict in one member state rarely stays within its borders,” he noted.
