In 1991, two hikers in the Alps found a body emerging from the ice. They assumed it was a lost mountaineer. So did the authorities, who tried to free it with ice axes. But then an archaeologist examined the axe found beside him. Its blade was copper. The 'climber' had died 5,300 years ago. Before the Great Pyramid. Before Stonehenge. He had 61 tattoos, the remains of ibex, red deer and einkorn wheat in his stomach, and a flint arrowhead buried deep in his left shoulder. Someone had shot him from behind, high in the Alps. And the ice preserved the evidence for more than five millennia. We now know an extraordinary amount about Ötzi. But we still cannot answer who wanted him dead?

This image helps explain what happened along the Nepal–Tibet border. According to reports, a magnitude 4.4 earthquake on the Tibetan side triggered a massive ice avalanche, which then led to the flash flooding of the Bhotekoshi River in Nepal. Around 1,000 people are missing, and many have been killed.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Image is AI-generated and has China/Nepal labels reversed. USGS later clarified there was no earthquake — the M4.4 signal was produced by the glacial collapse and debris flow itself (now listed as M5.2 landslide). earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/ev… bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Uganda’s Road Traffic laws are clear: Specifically, Section 178(2)(g) every motorcycle rider and passenger must wear a certified safety helmet. This requirement saves lives and reduces the burden of road traffic injuries. Rwanda ,Kenya and several countries have demonstrated that consistent enforcement works. PLU must champion strict, fair, and nationwide through the organs of the state and ensure enforcement of this law because road safety is a shared national responsibility, not an option. @mkainerugaba @HonTwallafadil

Last evening , our Managing Director who also serves as Chairperson of the Uganda Bankers' Association, led the banking fraternity in celebrating the distinguished career and legacy of Dr. Fabian Kasi (@kasi_fabian) at a farewell reception hosted by the Uganda Bankers' Association. The event brought together the Governor of Bank of Uganda(@BOU_Official), Mr. Michael Atingi-Ego, Chief Executives from member banks, and other industry stakeholders to honour Dr. Kasi's contribution to Uganda's financial sector. In his remarks, Mr. Mugabi (@MugabiMk) paid tribute to Dr. Kasi's transformative leadership as Managing Director of Centenary Bank, former Chairperson of the Uganda Bankers' Association, and former President of the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (@ibfsUg). He highlighted Dr. Kasi's role in advancing landmark industry initiatives, including the launch of the Shared Agent Banking Interoperable Platform, the inaugural Annual Bankers' Conference, and strategic partnerships that have strengthened collaboration and expanded financial inclusion across the banking sector. Reflecting on Dr. Kasi's legacy, Mr. Mugabi noted that the greatest measure of leadership is not only the achievements realised, but the institutions strengthened, the partnerships forged, and the people inspired. We congratulate Dr. Fabian Kasi on an outstanding career and acknowledge our Managing Director for leading the industry in recognising one of Uganda's respected banking leaders.
