Andy Burnham is considering a visit to the Vatican to meet Pope Leo XIV in the spring, according to senior Vatican diplomat Archbishop Sir Paul Gallagher. Speaking at The Tablet lecture, he said having a Catholic as a political leader is significant because they are comfortable with Catholic social teaching concepts. He highlighted the role of the Vatican in keeping lines of dialogue open amid global conflicts, and said leaders were asking for moral guidance on AI. Report by @CPsPepTalk

We've just started our #RMCBriefing on the phenomenon of #ChristianNationalism in the UK and further afield, reflecting on @Theosthinktank report 'Beyond Christian Nationalism' just published by the Theos think tank. @rosiedawson
hosts with @theosnick, @robertpjones
Dr Maria Power, @annemariekramer
Stella Hill and Prof John Heathershaw.
Thank you to all our panelists and contributors to this #RMCBriefing on the phenomenon of #ChristianNationalism. It will shortly be available alongside our other briefings on our website: religionmediacentre.org.uk/b…
The briefing concludes with @rosiedawson explaining that data is also being collected about #ChristianNationalism in other European countries and how that correlates with what the findings are in the UK and the USA.
Restore, reclaim, reform are in the US as well. 'Again' is the most powerful word in the MAGA mantra and a sense of nostalgia. The narrative arc of these movements is loss, nostalgia and restoration - which the centre and centre centre-left have not met at that narrative level - @robertpjones
Prof John Denham says this group has, in its own terms, a coherent story of the nation and its relationship with Christianity. @Robertpjones says the question resonates, as in the USA there has been a sense of failure in the moral narrative in politics, and there's been a vacuum there.
Peter Adams, who is involved with church community work in Luton, says the likes of Tommy Robinson, Danny Tommo etc are now very different in what they say about their faith and is trying to understand what is driving this.
Jaime Ashworth from the @CCJUK and @Laura_E_Marks are asking about attitudes to Jews in the report. @theosnick says they did ask the question, but haven't made sense of the data yet. It is on the @Theosthinktank website.
We need to listen to and ask Christian nationalists what it is that is so vexing about society at the moment and get into the heart of how legitimate or not their concerns are - @theosnick
Ideas are much easier to spread in the massively decentralised communication network in which we live,
whereby ideas such as replacement and conspiracy theories are much easier to spread than ten years ago - @theosnick
