I just spoke with Mayor Bass and expressed my deepest gratitude for her leadership and decades of service. Los Angeles would not be the city it is today without her.

One thing that gets overshadowed (on here) by the Nithya/DSA drama, is that LA is a classic machine town where the party decides, and low-engagement, low-turnout elections don’t serve as much of a check on the party elite. Nithya winning is a pretty huge rebuke of that

At the same time, people shouldn’t put it all on Nithya’s shoulders. All you young people (and not so young people) should continue organizing. Create your own little armies. They’re going to be needed to fight against everything City council throws at Nithya. Show up to NC meetings. Council meetings. Commission meetings. Put pressure on your councilmembers. Make the politicians more afraid of the people than the special interest money groups. Use that power to pressure Nithya to stay on course. And use that pressure to help her out.
If you just walk away for the next four years, the special interests will fill the vacuum. So hold Nithya accountable but put your foot in the ass of Councilmembers that are selling out or operating in bad faith.

We need to close the loophole that allowed Mayor Bass to text so many people with city resources so close to the election. It was deeply and obviously part of a campaign strategy. We have laws around mass mailings. The technology has evolved. So must the law.

Yes- she won because this movement was powered by people, everyday citizens fed up with a status quo & lackluster leadership we have in our City

Councilwoman Nithya Raman will be the 44th Mayor of Los Angeles. Under 50 vote is now 45% of the market share, with no sign of that going down.
She won without the standard DSA all-stars of Bernie Sanders, AOC, Mamdani or Ro Khanna endorsing her. It was a City Controller, a Supervisor and a merry band of dedicated volunteers who won this race.
Free advice (I am sure me saying it has less value to her and her team).
Go Big!
Announce a series of Town-halls with Mayor Mamdani across the country setting the “urban agenda” before the 2028 Presidential Cycle, commit to making your endorsements together for the same Dem candidate. Use your bully pulpit for urban centers across the country, become a household name.
Rise above City Hall.
