Data center power consumption is a problem if it drives up consumers’ electricity bills, says Flex CEO @RevathiAdvaithi:
“Now, the power situation is different because if you have a utility that is directing power to the data center, taking it away from consumers and hiking bills for consumers, that is a problem.”
I am intrigued when “tech” companies do the same thing manufacturing companies have been doing for a decade and get so much hype from it. We at @Flex have had the Flex Pulse system that all customers can plug into today and see their supply chain end to end for 8+ years. We need more CEO’s to truly understand supply chain and factory operations so we don’t keep paying for expensive software.

On a recent episode of the @Catalyst podcast, @SemiAnalysis_ dropped a staggering metric: Anthropic wants to scale from 1.5GW to over 10GW. The AI hype cycle has a massive physical blind spot. We are deploying trillions into compute, but running on a U.S. grid where the average transformer is 40 years old and underinvested by a generation. The infinite demand for AI shouldn’t slam into a wall of finite copper.
Ask an AI expert to describe the strategy and competitive positioning of the individual hyperscalers, frontier labs and neoclouds with regard to chips and you'll get a detailed answer.
Ask them the same thing with regard to power and you'll get very little. This is a mistake.
So, to rectify the situation, I went deep with Jeremie Eliahou Ontiveros of @SemiAnalysis_ on @CatalystPod .

There is no danger of overdoing reshoring since we will always be gated by our constraints - availability of people for manufacturing jobs.
