New Zealand could again lead the world by banning this "sport" but there's zero chance of that ever happening when NZ First is bought and paid for by the racing industry (among others). "Donations" to the shadowy NZF Foundation will always take precedence over animal welfare. #nzpol
I hope this photo is a watershed moment. Forced to carry on to the end of the race with a broken back. Collapsed & died after the finish line. RIP Gold Dancer. If you’re making money off this kind of suffering - how do you look at yourself in the mirror?

That's what happens when you elevate a narcissistic misogynist to a position where he's able to suck all the air out of the last week of your campaign. Yet he knew exactly what he was getting, so the gap between expectation and reality is entirely on Winston #NZPolitics #nzpol
Winston Peters speaking now on a moderately successful NZ First result - 9. 54% - but far from the mid teens of three months ago, when he said his party would "make confetti" of the polls even then. Guess it's still a microlight to the moon, rather than that rocket to the stars.

voachinese.com/a/trump-desig…

TBH, while his latest remarks were disgusting, I think for most people they just provided a convenient hook on which to hang their revulsion that @winstonpeters - whom I found always to be publicly polite and a respecter of decorum - had stooped so low as to elevate this garbage fire to a place that guaranteed a return to Parliament. Especially considering he resigned because his lies to Winston inadvertently led to Winston lying to Parliament, which to him was tantamount to treason.

Winston pretending to care about Michael Laws disgusting language. He put Michael Laws at 6 on the list BECAUSE he’s inappropriate, he’s made a career of saying offensive things. Much like Shane Jones and Winston himself. Don’t insult New Zealand’s intelligence.

In New Zealand, you can help find a cure - or at least a treatment for the symptoms - for this horrible disease by donating at alzheimers.org.nz/get-involv… #PatrickStewart

No, *you're* crying! 😰
Rest in peace, Sir Patrick Stewart, who passed away today at the age of 86. Perhaps best known for his iconic role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Stewart spent the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown sharing videos of himself reading Shakespeare’s sonnets. Notably, he was once joined by his neighbor’s cat Glenn who appeared unimpressed by Sonnet 40. #cat #catlovers #RIP

Well what a surprise, said no one who'd been paying the slightest bit of attention for the past 30 years or so. He really doesn't give a rat's whether someone's drunk uncle posts a misogynistic tweet. But once the government has its hands on the censorship button, guess what he'll want censored?
Online misogyny causes sexual violence, say governments. But the science doesn't support such claims. Now, a new investigation reveals that mining titan Twiggy Forrest, who receives millions in subsidies, spent millions to pass censorship legislation.

Insulting, misogynistic comments discussing violence against a defence lawyer is a "coping mechanism" for police apparently. If that's what you need to do to cope, then you're in the wrong job. And most of them are. If that's their attitude to lawyers, imagine their attitude to suspects.

Anyone who idly flicks through the media over their breakfast toast knows this, let alone professional political strategists. The people responsible for this gutless "strategy" should be nowhere near a political party, let alone a major one. So how did they get there?
Labour's not running a woke campaign & that should be helping them, but all it has done is expose their milquetoast, third-way neoliberal economic philosophy. Their policies are too incremental. They lack boldness, which is needed for them to be effective in this change election.

This is astoundingly stupid. When a CCP official visits the Australian Parliament, MPs and staff are told to shut off their devices. But to drive around having conversations and making phone calls in what is effectively a mobile CCP listening device is just fine!! theepochtimes.com/world/mps-…
Replying to @PLMattis
Hello from Canberra, where a Federal Government Cabinet minister - Australia’s Trade Minister - boasts about loving his BYD vehicle, and where guidance from our Parliamentary regulator is politicians can get a Chinese EV, but not say anything ‘sensitive’ in the vehicle….

A lot of political parties seem keen on backdoor action. By which I mean introducing universal digital ID through the back door of "protecting the kids".

People finally waking up to that fact that we live in a surveillance state. And to the fact that the police are, in fact, the private security force of the state apparatus, and do not exist to create "safer communities together."
This is VERY disturbing.

The fact that the @nzpolice are recruiting the kind of people who'd steal and sell a pistol should give them pause to ask whether it's such a great idea to routinely let those same officers cruise around with "two Glock pistols and two M4 rifles" - items designed only to kill other people. nzherald.co.nz/nz/ex-cop-ste…
