Love this story from Harry Redknapp who tells the story of how he missed out on a future star after signing Carl Richards instead: “I bought Carl for £10,000, went to pick him up from Enfield and while he went in to say goodbye to his manager, he left me with his mate.” “‘What are you signing him for?’ said this kid. ‘I’m 10 times better than him. I’ve got 26 goals this season, he’s only got 12. I’m different class than him. Why don’t you sign me?” “I was worried. ‘I can’t buy you, I’m buying him,’ I told Carl’s mate, ‘but I’ll keep an eye out for you, don’t worry.” “So we took Carl and he was absolutely useless. He could run, but that was about it. We played about six games, couldn’t win one. Carl was terrible.” “After about four games of this, he came to see me. ‘I’ve got a mate,’ he said. ‘He was asking if he could have a trial. He’s a striker, like me.’ “‘And is he as good as you, Carl?’ I asked, suspiciously. ‘No, he’s not as good as me,’ he said, ‘but he’s decent.’ “‘Well, tell him not to f***ing bother then,’ I snapped, and that was the end of it.” “The following Saturday, we went to play Crystal Palace. ‘My mate, the one who wanted a trial, he’s playing for Palace today,’ said Carl. ‘Oh good,’ I thought. ‘No problem there then.” “Anyway, three goals later I realised Carl wasn’t much of a scout, either. His mate’s name? Ian Wright, who went on to score 238 league goals.” #football #footballstory

This is superb journalism. Not just the detail and the hard work of investigating, but the storytelling. The production values and the graphics *chef’s kiss*, the pacing and tone of the writing. And most importantly, it’s brave. It points the finger at the culprits.
At least five women have filed lawsuits saying they were the targets of malicious campaigns run by professionals to destroy their reputations. The New York Times interviewed more than 60 people and analyzed hundreds of documents to examine the allegations. nyti.ms/4hMJVL9

This bloke was one of my lecturers at City University when I was doing my post grad. He was unpleasant at the time but this is truly disgusting and deranged.
I watched the BBC1 TV news at Six and was startled to watch coverage of this memorial. It far exceeded the news value of the occasion in length and content. As usual alarm about levels of ugly anti semitism lacked any proper context: the slaughter in Gaza bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2z…

Sky News conveniently forgetting how it first reported the story. And they wonder why trust is so low.
'The enormity of what happened here hits you' Sky's @DominicWaghorn reports live from Minab in Iran at the school which was allegedly hit by a U.S. strike, killing more than 150 people Sky News is the first international news team to report from the site.

This really is masterful interviewing from @TrevorPTweets. @SkyNews should put the entire interview online on X. Polanski completely floored when Phillips explains the tenets of the MacPherson/Stephen Lawrence Inquiry re perception 2 clips: watch this unfold
Watching Trevor Phillips fillet Polanski. Wow , his normal NLP strategies not working.

Nothing makes my blood boil like seeing this tweet from this awful human (I know that from first hand experience), retweeted by the likes of Richard Bacon and others who themselves have spread toxic, twisted, hateful lies and conspiracy theories for years on end.
Horrific and reprehensible. There is absolutely no excuse for antisemitic violence, or violence of any kind. Jewish communities shouldn't have to live in fear.

The Green Party has really shown us what they represent today: a regime that kills women for showing their hair and murdered nearly 40,000 in just a few days. A regime that openly declares its desire to destroy Israel and the West. If you vote for them, you are an idiot.
💥 Deputy leader of @TheGreenParty Mothin Ali is at the really extreme pro-Islamic Republic of Iran protest in London RIGHT NOW. What is he doing there? This is shocking even for him. 🎥 @uprising_1

Finchley - a very Iranian suburb of London - is a cacophony of noise right now. All I can hear from my bedroom window is car horns and cheering. It’s absolutely relentless but joyous.

Meanwhile, actual Iranians in London are celebrating (Excuse my terrible filming). Ultra left wing madness is claiming to stand up for the oppressed, and then condemning those that *actually* stand up for the oppressed. Jeremy Corbyn is the personification of it.
The attacks on Iran by Israel and the United States are illegal, unprovoked and unjustifiable. Peace and diplomacy was possible. Instead, Israel and the United States chose war. This is the behaviour of rogue states — and they have jeopardised the safety of humankind around the world with this catastrophic act of aggression. Our government must condemn this flagrant breach of international law, and urgently pursue a foreign policy based on justice, sovereignty and peace.
