I really love the narrative of Jordan Firstman being the shallow Gay guy no one takes seriously for his Universally-acclaimed silly creative project acquired by A24 for $17M at Cannes to gag them all later on.
A year and a half ago, the former YouTuber Miss Benny became friendly with Jordan Firstman at a dinner they were both invited to and spent the entire meal, by her own admission, bullying him for being βthe ultimate gay guyβ β dishy, cocky, sexual. She charmed him. βShe spoke earnestly about her life in a way I was drawn to. I found her incredibly endearing,β Firstman says.
βHe randomly was like, βWhat are you doing in October? You should do this movie,ββ she recalls. βI was like, βYeah, let me do your little gay-guy movie.β Iβm going to help him out.β That little movie ended up being the Cannes breakout βClub Kid,β which received rave reviews, sold at the festival to A24 for $17 million, and is now a bona fide awards-season contender. βMuch later, I realized how sought-after this project was,β Miss Benny says. βIβm so glad I didnβt know because I wouldβve absolutely lost my mind.β
Though sheβs in many of the movieβs raucous nightlife scenes, Miss Bennyβs favorite part was getting to play a trans girl outside the party space. βWith a lot of scripts that I read, if I ever get sent stuff, itβs girls going crazy on drugs and sex,β she says. The idea of playing a self-actualized woman onscreen is new for Miss Benny, whose fame was built pre-transition.
In her teens and early 20s, perceived as a young gay man, she rode the wave of corporate-Pride-era queerness to nearly 300,000 YouTube subscribers. In 2023, she starred in the Netflix show βGlamorousβ as the 22-year-old influencer Marco, who lands a job with a makeup mogul played by Kim Cattrall. But she stopped posting on YouTube in 2019 and hasnβt been onscreen since βGlamorous.β βClub Kidβ is something of a coming-out party.

Any serious research and interaction into non-Western mysticism, both pre and postcolonial, would immediately reveal that not only are astrology and other spiritual technologies not inherently harmful, but are often spaces of resistance and subversion.

there is a serious lack of honesty when it comes to the role women who date men play in reinforcing gender roles and patriarchy that makes many of you look like youβve never gone outside or talked to anyone ever
