Only a Sith deals in absolutes. "Local inference is a terrible allocation" sounds sensible until you look at what it assumes: that compute should be pooled and allocated centrally, and individuals owning their own is waste. That's a collectivist premise, and it runs against how people actually live and behave. We want our own tools, our own data, our own say. And the practical case stands on its own: - Cost over time: a GPU you already own costs nothing per token, while an always-on agent adds up fast in the cloud. - Privacy: your calendar, inbox and notes never leave your machine. - Always available: no outage, rate limit or connection needed. 2B models can now run real agent loops on a 10GB card. Cloud has its place. So does ownership.
sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources “a lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that”

📱 35B parameters. Real-time inference. On a phone. Meet Lookahead Expert Scheduling (LES), the inference system powering MiniCPM-V 4.7’s 35B-A3B MoE model on edge devices. 🚀 On an iPhone 18 Pro Max, the full system reaches 20.51 tokens per second, a 6.07× speedup over loading expert weights on demand. How? Three coordinated optimizations: - 🔮 Scheduling: Predict and prefetch the next layer’s experts while the current layer computes. - 💾 Storage: Combine contiguous expert layouts with mixed-precision quantization to reduce loading overhead. - ⚡ Compute: Use DSpark speculative decoding to verify multiple candidate tokens in one pass. Predictions guide prefetching; the model’s actual router still determines which experts execute. The architecture, expert counts, and routing remain intact. Mixed-precision quantization reduces the weight file by 26.7%, with just a 0.16-point drop in the five-benchmark average. LES shows how better inference systems can bring larger, more capable models to everyday devices. 🌍 👉 LES: github.com/openbmb/llama.cpp… 🔗 GitHub: github.com/OpenBMB/MiniCPM-V #MiniCPM #OnDeviceAI #MoE #EdgeAI

Oh god f*ck, is this even possible? NVIDIA's new micro-robots just integrated the Grok Robot Brain Engine, and the live neural telemetry broadcast is genuinely terrifying Watch what happens in the live feed when the robot ("Alpha") trips over a cone and hits the floor. Instead of rigid pre-programmed recovery scripts, you can watch its synthetic brain adapt and re-calculate in absolute real time: • Live Neural Telemetry: Multi-node graphs track gait policies, spike rasters, and motor torque as the machine processes physical obstacles. • Autonomous Recovery: The moment a fall is detected, thousands of neural nodes fire simultaneously to calculate friction, torque, and balance locks until the robot stands back up entirely on its own. • Edge Cognition: Every step, stumble, and correction is generated live by a distributed neural network, completely bypassing traditional hardcoded robotics. We are no longer just building machines; we are watching synthetic nervous systems wake up in the physical world. Bookmark this before physical AI completely rewrites the entire robotics industry.

Got Nemotron 3.5 Bolt E4B (MLX 4-bit) on the M2 MacBook Air. 25+ tok/s output with ~4k context prompting (and a 20k window). At this speed, it could be the most intelligent 4B yet on such low-end hardware. More testing to come.

Open-source AI can sit with a community's elders and help carry their stories forward, not lock them away in an archive. That's why we're committing $42M to build a model that speaks the language and helps the next generation keep it alive ↓
The most important technology of our time is being built in private, but we're funding the alternative: $42M for the people building AGI in the open. Whether it's the model, weights, code, data, or evals, AI should belong to the people it serves, run on hardware they own, and reach the cheapest phone on earth. Here’s a few of the use cases we want to back ↓

This is huge. Xiaomi just open-sourced 7k+ reinforcement learning task environments used to train MiMo, covering code, cybersecurity, general tool use, visual web development, and music-related tasks. here's why this matters more than another model release: open weights let you run a model. open environments let you teach one. reinforcement learning environments are difficult to build, because each task needs an executable world, a clear objective, tools the agent can use, and a reliable test for success. Xiaomi has released much of that missing infrastructure, including prompts, agent configurations, reward metadata, and the surrounding training framework. here is what developers can now do with it. → train models on real agent work. instead of imitating static answers, a model can attempt tasks, call tools, observe results, and improve from the outcome. → specialize smaller models. teams can train an open checkpoint for software engineering, vulnerability reproduction, knowledge work, or web development instead of relying on a much larger general-purpose model. → study complete trajectories. each run captures the agent’s reasoning, tool calls, environment feedback, and reward. researchers can identify where agents fail and compare training algorithms, reward strategies, harnesses, and models. → build a complete training loop. Xiaomi’s stack covers environment interaction, trajectory collection, reward evaluation, and policy optimization. developers can replace individual components and measure what improves behavior. the key shift is from open-sourcing model outputs to open-sourcing learning experiences. a dataset teaches a model what an answer looks like. an environment lets it discover which actions lead to success. check this out on HuggingFace 🤗: huggingface.co/datasets/Xiao… i wrote a complete breakdown of fine-tuning models with reinforcement learning using GRPO and RULER. RULER uses a language model judge to rank trajectories, so you do not have to manually write reward functions or collect labeled answers. the article is quoted below.

🚨 MiniMax M3.1 looks very close now They’re now running "M3.1-preview" through partner serving tests: - low -> max reasoning effort - image + video support (multimodal) - DSpark speculative decoding Im sticking with Wednesday as my guess for the drop
🚨 MiniMax M3.1 should officially drop next week Another test references M3.1 with 1M context + Max reasoning, MiniMax Code is littered with references to it too I’m pretty sure this is the new stealth model “Space Bunny”, so I’m betting it officially drops next Wednesday when the free week ends
