I've been writing about neurotech for 20+ years now, in both fiction and non. This is the most exciting the field has ever been. Truly sci-fi stuff. Awesome to see how @juanbenet is investing in and supporting companies here.
Neurotech is Humanity’s Next Frontier! I’ve been investing in neurotech since 2021 and working with teams building BCIs, NeuroAI, and connectomics. It now feels like AI did in ~2019. We are entering an extraordinary era: neurotech already restores functions, it can enhance our capabilities, and will evolve what it means to be human. PLC Neurotech is the fund backing the extraordinary founders and defining companies of this booming industry.

Soon we will do the same with every disease OpenAI used thousands of AI agents to investigate a Parkinson like neurodegenerative disease, compressing months of scientific research into just 32 minutes. The agents analyzed data from millions of brain cells, explored hundreds of scientific references, and uncovered a potential connection between a specific gene, cholesterol regulation, and neurodegeneration. Human experts preferred the multi-agent research reports 75% of the time over those produced by a single AI agent.

🇪🇺 EU has no plans to return to Russian energy resources, including after the end of the war in Ukraine, — EC spokeswoman “We have learned our lesson,” she said. Moreover, by the end of 2027, the EU plans to completely abandon Russian gas. She added that sanctions against the Russian energy sector will remain in place until the end of Putin’s war.

New Details have emerged of a US peace proposal to Russia in order to stop the war in Ukraine in specific on territory and economic cooperation: -US has proposed numerous territorial concessions first of creating large demilitarised zones in the South of Ukraine near the Kirbun spit and the Donbas stopping fighting where it is and implementing a large grey zone perhaps policies by external militaries or private miltiary operations, the preference is to give Ukraine control over these territories. -The Zaporhiziha nuclear power plant would be put under independent or Ukrainian control. -In exchange Russia has been offered widespread economic cooperation for Far east cooperation on oil extraction in the Sakhalin-1 project and the potential resumption of Russian oil exports to Europe via the Druzhba pipeline.

New poll: 76% of Ukrainians living in Ukraine believe that armed resistance to Russian aggression must continue, even if some of them have to spend some time without electricity, running water, or sewage services. Only 15% believe Ukraine should accept all of Russia’s demands to preserve these basic comforts, even if it means losing the war. Since August–September, despite all of Russia’s attacks, public attitudes have remained virtually unchanged. 80% believe Ukraine should continue striking Russia’s oil industry, despite US demands to unilaterally stop doing so and threats to suspend or restrict aid. Only 11% believe Ukraine should refrain from such strikes, even if Russia continues destroying civilian infrastructure. 63% are prepared to endure the war for as long as necessary, while 21% are willing to endure it for up to another six months. These attitudes have also remained virtually unchanged throughout the second half of 2026. 62% trust Zelenskyy as president, while 35% do not. kiis.com.ua/?lang=eng&cat=re…

This is why we listen to experts (or should): Not everything that seems or sounds logical, necessarily is. The easy solutions you find on Facebook or at your Weatherspoon pub, are gut feeling, not fact. You might not like expert advice, but reality beats 'common sense'.

What the democratic world still fails to understand is what one look at his domestic popularity polling can quickly resolve, namely that Putin NEEDS war to stay in power. He will never give up this constant state of war and if time is any measure, he will need a much larger war some time in the next 2-3 years, and helping Iran and the Houthis destroy the oil industries if missle eastern nations will boost oul prices sufficient to give him the funding to do it. Meanwhile, Europe is focused on the weekend IKEA trip.

NEW: Staggering details emerging from Westminster Mags on the RAF Fairford plot today. One of the five men arrested near the US military base called the police after a "handler" warned there was a bomb in the van, a court heard. Mohmed Abdulkarim, 24, and Nouman Essghir, 24, both appeared in court on Tuesday charged under the National Security Act 2023. Abdulkarim, of London, is accused of assisting a foreign intelligence service, by acting as an “intermediary” for the handler Ali. While Essghir, also of London, has been charged with entering a prohibited place for a purpose prejudicial to the UK, relating to an alleged “reconnaissance” mission on August 22, around a month before the Fairford incident. The group were ordered to drive the van loaded with petrol to RAF Fairford by a handler known as ‘Ali’ who police believe was working on behalf of Iran. No explosives, or improvised explosives were found in the vans, the court heard. Police did find a metal oil drum in each, two of which had petrol in, along with hard plastic water butts and internet-enabled dashcams. Prosecuting, Louise Gray, said: “Shortly thereafter the message was received that there was a bomb in the vehicles and one of them called the police.” Abdulkarim is alleged to have aided the organiser, Ali, who is believed to be abroad and to be acting in the interests of the Iranian state. Ali is also potentially connected to an incident at the Israeli embassy earlier this year, where propaganda videos were posted online suggesting it had been attacked with a chemical weapon by a drone, the court heard. Prosecutors allege that Abdulkarim aided Ali, buying equipment for the mission and receiving multiple payments from him totalling around £70,000. Before the men, allegedly enlisted by Abdulkarim, travelled to RAF Fairford, £300 worth of petrol was filled into the drums in the back of the vans.

Last night, the exit polls told one story: Netanyahu had lost, but it wasn’t clear who on the other side had won. This morning, the results are telling another. Netanyahu hasn’t won yet, but the change bloc has clearly lost. I’ve covered politics since the start of the century. I have never seen a camp organize for an election as impeccably, as efficiently and as energetically as the change bloc did. It signed model surplus-vote agreements, so that no leftover votes would go to waste, and ran an unprecedented operation flying Israelis home from abroad to vote. And by the actual count, it ended up with more or less the same number of seats as in the last election. Demography beat energy, and the message also proved flawed and unsuccessful. The public wasn’t convinced that the war had been a total victory, as Netanyahu claimed, but it also refused to buy the opposition’s claim that it was a total failure. It was repelled by Haredi draft-dodging, but didn’t think the solution was a minority government propped up by draft refusers and anti-Zionists. It was disgusted when ultra-Orthodox protesters chanted “We do not believe in the rule of the Zionists,” but it was just as shocked when “Biladi, Biladi,” the Palestinian national anthem, was sung at the Joint List’s headquarters last night. Netanyahu’s position changed completely between the release of the exit polls and the arrival of the real results. Last night it seemed clear that Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, a Likud loyalist, would be ousted and that, one way or another, Gadi Eisenkot, the former IDF chief of staff, would form a minority government. Now, by the criteria Eisenkot himself set, he has lost the legitimacy to form such a government. He promised he wouldn’t rely on the Arab parties’ votes, yet without a majority he would now need the active support of the Joint List, which looks futile and pointless. In post-October 7 Israel, there is no chance that a coalition including six candidates who lost immediate family to Hamas could last long alongside Joint List lawmakers who claim Hamas is simply a charitable organization. After the 1967 war, Defense Minister Moshe Dayan famously said Israel was waiting for the Arabs to call. In the same spirit, Netanyahu in effect told the change camp before dawn: here’s my phone number, feel free to use it. Yisrael Beiteinu’s Avigdor Lieberman, former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Eisenkot now face a dilemma from hell. They can go to another election, one that Israelis abroad will no longer fly home for. They can try to join Netanyahu’s bloc on tough terms, breaking their campaign pledges never to sit with him. Or they can beg the Islamist Ra’am and the Joint List, now drunk on their success, for support. And one final note: for the entire campaign, we searched for a third bloc, a centrist unity bloc between Netanyahu and his rivals. Candidates included Benny Gantz and former UN Ambassador Gilad Erdan, former general Ofer Winter and economist Yaron Zelekha, former Culture Minister Hili Tropper and who even remembers who else. They all collapsed, evaporated or vanished. And now it turns out the unity bloc may have been the Arab parties all along. Their historic, almost hysterical turnout, at rates that will need careful examination, shattered both sides’ dreams of a 61-seat majority. It reminded Jews on both sides that, after years of division, they may have to learn to sit together after all. newsletter.amitsegal.net/p/i…

🇺🇦 🇺🇲 The confrontation inside Trump's Ukraine peace negotiations is now coming into focus. Le Monde reports that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner spent nearly three hours pitching Ukraine's presidential chief of staff, Kyrylo Budanov, a postwar economic arrangement built around restoring Russian oil and gas flows to Europe through Ukrainian pipelines. The meeting took place on October 9 at the Shell Bay golf club in Florida. Witkoff presented the proposal as a regional prosperity plan: Ukraine would collect transit revenues, Europe would receive cheaper energy, and Russia would regain access to commercial routes disrupted by the war. Budanov saw something fundamentally different. According to a witness cited by Le Monde, he objected that the arrangement would recreate Ukraine's dependence on Moscow. “Our model is not Belarus, but Poland!” he reportedly replied. The meeting was interrupted, and Budanov called Zelensky. When talks resumed, news arrived that Trump had announced a separate agreement with Putin involving Russian diesel. Le Monde reports that an irritated Witkoff then demanded that the Ukrainians accept the arrangement and stop striking Russian oil refineries, arguing that the attacks endangered the wider world. A source familiar with the Ukrainian delegation described its members as exceptionally distressed by the encounter. The account adds a revealing dimension to the commercial negotiations we have been tracking. The proposed Lukoil asset sale, Novatek's involvement in an Alaska LNG venture, the broader US-Russia list of business opportunities reported by the Financial Times, and now the proposed restoration of Russian energy transit through Ukraine all point to the prominence of energy deals in Washington's diplomatic approach. These are separate proposals, with different participants and legal circumstances. But Le Monde's reporting exposes the strategic disagreement underlying them. For Witkoff, restoring commercial flows appears to be part of the mechanism for producing a peace settlement. For Budanov, according to the account, those same flows threaten to restore Moscow's economic leverage over Ukraine. The reported exchange also raises a question about sequencing: why was Kyiv being pressed to stop attacking Russian refineries while Russia continued striking Ukrainian energy infrastructure? Le Monde's reconstruction relies on accounts of a private meeting. The reported exchanges have not been independently confirmed by the participants. Source: Le Monde
