Being good enough to help isn’t enough. You don’t earn trust with your best performance. You earn it by meeting the standard consistently. Give your team something they never have to question: whether you’ll do your part.

Had a moment today where I realized 15yr old me would be freaking out. I pulled into AT&T Stadium, where the Dallas Cowboys play, and thought, “I get to work here today. How awesome is that?” So many of us have blinders in our pursuit of whatever it is that we are building. Not a bad thing. But sometimes we miss what’s in front of us. I get to serve national champions, billion dollar organizations, award-winning firms, pro athletes, and more. The dream is both real and still being built. A reminder to myself, and to you, to take the time to not just pursue a vision, but to enjoy and appreciate the journey.

Notre Dame's schedule has been questioned all season. Now comes its biggest test yet. Go all-access with Marcus Freeman as he prepares the Fighting Irish for a top-10 showdown with BYU.

They're out here just inventing narratives and then quoting themselves. It's a joke.

Everyone knows @RyanQualtrics but not as many know his partner @ryanjsweeney. He’s one of Silicon Valley’s best investors, Jazz/Mammoth co-owner, and a great person. Game today doesn’t happen without his efforts.

About to land in Utah for the thousandth time, but this one hits a bit different because I'm here to watch Notre Dame play. 🏈✈️ Huge credit to BYU AD Brian Santiago and ND AD Pete Bevacqua. They took a simple intro last winter and turned it into a top 10 matchup, College GameDay, and prime time on ABC this Saturday.👏🏻 Honestly a full circle moment for a Catholic kid from Jersey who grew up dreaming about college in South Bend. And after 15+ years of coming out to Utah, getting to know the sports fans, and learning about BYU, I’ve always felt the two schools share the similar values and spirit. All that said… Irish by 100 #LeaveNoDoubt ☘️ (And Go Jazz + Mammoth!)

Gary Myers reveals that Bill Parcells has secretly paid over $4,000,000 to 20 of his former players who were struggling financially because he believed they sacrificed to make him financially secure and there is no better way to spend the money “Over the years, Parcells had loaned out a total of four million dollars to 20 of his former players who have come to him, I won't say destitute, but certainly having financial hardship.” “And Bill sat down and wrote checks for about four million dollars, which to me is completely unprecedented in sports. I've never heard of anything like that. And I said, 'Bill, why would you do something like that? Why do you feel obligated?' And he explained to me that he set aside all the money he needs for, hopefully, another 30 years of his life.” “He just turned 82. And he's given money to his three daughters and to his grandchildren, and then he has a certain amount of money left. And he says, 'What better way is there to do it than if some of my players who gave so much to me and helped make me a Hall of Fame coach and make me financially secure?” “It was because of their hard work and me driving them to be the best they can be. They gave so much to me. Now that I'm in a position to help, and unfortunately they're in a position where they need help, why shouldn't I be the one to help?'” “And, you know, people who remember Parcells, there's this hard-driving coach who had a love-hate relationship with his players. And now to see the transformation where he has become the patriarch of that team.”

Major cheat code for life: Stop dragging yesterday into today. The argument. The mistake. The missed chance. It’s already gone. Stop reliving it. Learn fast. Forgive yourself faster. Move forward. Life happens in the direction you face.

A Monday morning question for you: Life is always progressing to the next stage. As you enter a new season, habits that previously served you well may need to be refreshed or adjusted. Which one of your current habits have you outgrown and is in need of a change?

30+ years of coaching taught me that winning isn't nearly as complicated as we make it. Doing what winning requires? That's the hard part. After watching Episode 1 of Nick Saban’s new documentary, I wrote down 15 golden nuggets that every coach and leader should hear. Here they are: 1. Humility “I don’t see myself as somebody that is different from other coaches and other people.” Seven national championships, yet he doesn’t put himself above others. Great leaders have confidence without arrogance. 2. Purpose “It wasn’t my life dream to be a coach.” Sometimes your purpose finds you. Coaching becomes much bigger than the game when you realize the impact you can have on people. 3. Success “It takes what it takes and then you make yourself do it.” My favorite line. Discipline, preparation, work ethic, and accountability haven’t changed. Everybody wants success. Not everybody does what it requires. 4. Consistency “My consistency and performance doesn’t vary.” Do your players get the same coach after a win as after a loss? Your standards shouldn’t depend on your circumstances. 5. Clarity “They wanted to be good. I don’t think they knew what they needed to do to be good.” Wanting to win isn’t enough. Coaches must teach players exactly what winning behaviors look like. 6. Discipline “If they can’t play with the right discipline then maybe they shouldn’t be playing.” Your standards mean nothing if they don’t apply to your best players. Culture is defined by what you tolerate. 7. Perspective “I always try to balance expectations with how important is it actually to win a game.” I wanted to win every game I coached. But winning should never come at the expense of your values or relationships. 8. The Journey “You have to keep players focused on the journey.” Everybody loves talking about championships. Great teams focus on the daily habits that make championships possible. 9. Next Play “Just play the next play.” Mistakes happen. Adversity happens. Your response matters. Learn from it, let it go, and move forward. 10. Improvement “Our focus is on improvement. We need to improve a lot.” Winning doesn’t always mean you played well. Losing doesn’t always mean you played poorly. Keep getting better. 11. The Process “It’s really hard to get people to focus on the process.” The scoreboard is a lagging indicator. Great teams focus on the behaviors they can control that eventually produce winning. 12. Leadership Growth “At Michigan State, I was a transactional leader.” Everything was about winning and losing. Great coaching eventually becomes about more than outcomes. It’s about developing people. 13. The Future “The future is where you’re going to live the rest of your life.” Learn from the past, but don’t live there. Your future deserves more attention than your mistakes. 14. Execution “You don’t focus on what you want to accomplish you focus on what you need to do to accomplish it.” Goals provide direction. Daily actions produce results. Stop talking about what you want and start doing what it takes. 15. Accountability “Being demanding is not necessarily being negative.” There’s a difference between telling a player they’re not tough and telling them they’re not playing tough enough. One attacks the person. The other corrects the behavior. You can be demanding without being demeaning. ⸻ My Biggest Takeaway After 30+ years of coaching, I keep coming back to Saban’s simplest message: “It takes what it takes.” There’s no secret formula. Successful teams understand what winning requires and consistently do those things. Everybody wants to win. Are you willing to do what winning requires?

The world is a mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and leave you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody can hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you GET HIT and keep moving forward. How much you can TAKE and keep moving forward. THATS HOW WINNING IS DONE. NOW IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOURE WORTH GO OUT AND GET WHAT YOURE WORTH AND QUIT POINTING FINGERS SAYING YOU ARENT WHERE YOU WANT TO BE BECAUSE OF HIM OR HER OR ANYBODY. Cowards do that AND THAT AINT YOU. YOURE BETTER THAN THAT.

CAPTAINS: Leadership is more than a title, position, status, talent, or having a "C" next to your name. Leadership is an action that moves your team forward. A leader helps their teammates to be their best. A leader makes others better. A leader is a positive influence.

Nick Saban says he had lived his entire life like he was in a hurry and didn’t even realize it “When I retired, and I don’t know if I ever shared this with anybody, I spent 50 years of my life being in a hurry and didn’t know it.” “I retired and the cars are backed up on the bridge and it goes down to one lane. In the old days, I would be the guy that passed all the cars up and cut in at the last minute in front of somebody.” “I sat there with Miss Terry in the car. She says, ‘You mean you’re not going to pass everybody illegally and cut in?’ I said, ‘We’re not in a hurry.’” “But it’s the first time when I retired that I realized that I wasn’t in a hurry. And I was in a hurry for 50 years and didn’t know it.” “I was always hurrying up to the next thing. Solve the next problem, go to the next thing. And you talk about relieving stress, that relieves stress better than anything. I just noticed it in that circumstance. Not cutting into traffic and waiting my turn.”
