SB-509 is a crucial piece of legislation to keep all our communities safe. As Hindu Americans, we stand with @sikhcoalition @SALDEF & our many community partners in support of this bill. Refuse to let a vocal minority hijack our real concerns about transnational repression
Replying to @sikh_coalition
As a reminder, SB 509 has support from Sikh, Hindu Japanese, Iranian, Muslim, Kashmiri, and South Asian groups. It is also supported by immigrants rights and law enforcement organizations. And it *also* passed the California Senate in a 38-0 bipartisan sweep.

For the first time ever, Virgin Atlantic flew with both Captain Jaspal Singh and First Officer Harinder Singh Chandan at the helm — a proud first for the airline and a powerful moment for the Sikh community across the globe. Not just pilots. Panth da maan. Not just a flight. A flight into history. With turbans on and hearts full, they flew not just a plane, but the dreams of generations that never saw themselves in this seat. Representation like this? It’s not just rare—it’s revolutionary. #SikhPilot #VirginAtlantic #Sikh #RepresentationMatters #KhalsaPride #RealInspiration #SikhsInAviation #ProudSinghs #BreakingBarriers #SimpleRealPowerful

SALDEF calls on @RepMaryMiller to issue an immediate apology for her reprehensible remarks from today, which are not only inexcusable but also fundamentally at odds with the principles on which our country was founded. These remarks are now deleted. (1/4)

Freedom of religion and celebrating our great diversity are core American values — especially in Jersey. This hateful attack on our Sikh community makes clear that some people still haven't gotten the memo.
Rep. Mary Miller says in a since-edited post it was "deeply disturbing" that a "Muslim" led morning prayer in the House (it was actually a Sikh man, Giani Singh, who'd been welcomed by Rep. Jeff Van Drew)

A Sikh man, Balbir Singh Sodhi, was murdered in my district after 9/11 because he was mistaken for an Arab Muslim. Arizona's Sikh community transformed that senseless act of hate into a powerful call for peace and understanding. It's a lesson I hope my colleague from Illinois can come to learn. The House has welcomed faith leaders of all backgrounds—priests, rabbis, imams, and more. We’re blessed to live in a nation founded upon religious liberty.

Guru Nanak was my kind of guy. Lots of good stories but I think my slight fave was when his parents called a doctor because Guru Nanak did not seek the materialistic things which others sought in life. So he was considered abnormal. youtube.com/watch?v=5qt5uIkK…

I understand these are uncertain and frightening times, particularly for our immigrant communities. As the son of immigrants, I deeply emphasize with the challenges many are now facing. Hoboken stands united in support of our neighbors, regardless of where you were born or who your parents are, and will continue to be a fair, welcoming and inclusive city for all who call it home.
