Our YOUth Month initiatives have been incredibly impactful so far! More than 400 young people benefited from the successful staging of our National Youth Leaders Summit yesterday, and young people’s participation has exceeded my expectations. I’m honoured to lead this month of activities and to be in a position to influence positive change. Next week, we have four events: capacity-building workshops in Regions 1 and 6, Pon Di Corna 1 in Portland, and the National Youth Council of Jamaica AGM! See you! #YOUthWill #YOUthMonth2026

A year after Hurricane Melissa, over $84 billion has gone into recovery: roofs back over families, children back in classrooms, lights back on sooner than projected, and support for farmers and small businesses to rebuild.
There is more to do, and we will keep you updated.

Happening now!
The YOUth Leaders Summit is off to an inspiring start, with hundreds of student leaders from across Jamaica gathered at the Jamaica Conference Centre. Today, young leaders are strengthening their understanding of student representation, accountable leadership, civic responsibility and meaningful participation in building a prosperous, inclusive and resilient Jamaica.
Their perspectives and recommendations will help inform the MTF 2027–2030 and shape education and youth-development priorities. The summit is also deepening understanding of Vision 2030 Jamaica, national development priorities and opportunities for youth to contribute.
By bringing together student leadership bodies, the Ministry, PIOJ and youth-development partners, we’re building stronger partnerships—and ensuring young people’s voices help shape Jamaica’s future. Our youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are partners in building Jamaica today. #YOUthWill #YOUth2026

Sharing my Op-Ed in today's Jamaica Observer. For those who wish to have answers about the purpose and mandate of NaRRA.
In his latest series of posts on social media platforms regarding the National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority (NaRRA), Opposition Leader Mark Golding asked a question that reveals a fundamental, dangerous misunderstanding of modern disaster risk management:
“Why is NaRRA about legacy projects and not Hurricane Melissa recovery?”

Respectfully, the salary is in line with what other reconstruction agencies around the world offer. It is also in line with a number of other GOJ entities NHT, OUR, Port Authority, HEART. The Job will be quite difficult. Let's give it a chance to do its work.
