1/ @WillowCreekCC is approaching their 50th anniversary--so towards 5 full decades of multiple sexual predator clerics and never-ending Institutional Cowardice and Institutional Betrayal of victim-survivors: a thread (this thread is gonna get so. long. over the next 8 months)

I love the work @compassion does among children. But what this whistleblower reveals is extremely concerning.
An AI tool he developed found more than 25,000 cases of suspected grooming in letters between sponsors and the children in Compassion's program. The whistleblower says Compassion has failed to adequately address the danger and is instead threatening him with legal action.
I hate to say it, but this is typical circling-the-wagons behavior. I'm really disappointed. Full disclosure, I've sponsored Compassion children for decades.

It’s important to clear something up that I see misunderstood quite often.
If a pastor has a sexual relationship with a parishioner, it can never be described as consensual. This isn’t opinion – it’s a matter of clergy ethics.
It is malpractice – and an abuse of power.

Compassion International’s own AI tool flagged 25,810 suspected grooming cases in letters sponsors wrote to children. A whistleblower who helped build the tool says @compassion still has no process for canceling those sponsors.

Going into debt to support a church isn't necessarily an act of faith. It may be an act of financial recklessness. And pastors shouldn't confuse the two.
Yet as @WillowCreekCC seeks to raise $100 million, pastor Shawn Williams is praising families who took out personal loans and second mortgages to fund the church's first building in 1977.

1/ I want y'all to know that New Tribes Mission / Ethnos360 started a magazine in 1943 that ran through 2017 entitled "Brown Gold".
Its title is 100% doing exactly what you think it's doing.
This thread is eventually going to get so. so. long. #Ethnos360 #NewTribesMission
16/ I'm a little bit curious about how Theresa Sidebotham became so evil. She's a little bit like ... Eichmann. yeah, that's the simile, right there. Like some kind of Eichmann for Molech. What happened to her, one wonders, over there in Java, as a child?
17/ Perhaps even MORE interestingly--what if she went through some miraculous transformation and became a follower of Jesus? That'd be a thing to behold . Here's Dr. @wademullen on Dark Side and Light Side Leadership: docs.google.com/document/d/1…

.@WillowCreekCC is asking congregants for $100 million over two years, with participation from 100% of members. Senior Pastor Shawn Williams held up the people who took out second mortgages to fund the church's first building in 1977 as models of faith.
More than half the money would go to the church's general operating budget.

Virginia Woolf wrote of looking glass shame — a “life long aversion and embarrassment“ of her own frame.
Survivors of incest may bear a resemblance to own abusers or accomplices.
It’s suffocatingly complicated.
y'all. Ethnos360 / New Tribes Mission is an ongoingly dark dark horror show of global sexual abuse of children. =*(

I can recall churches requesting prayer for pastors, missionaries, police and politicians. Never recall a church asking for prayer for journalists. The @danielsilliman list of 52 people leaving Christianity Today, would be a good place to start. danielsilliman.substack.com/…

I struggle with the competing desires to be acknowledged for the atrocity of abuse whilst wishing to be invisible; to speak aloud in the day while writing in the night; to grieve with fellow mourners whilst seeking solace in solitude.

I have never seen so much evil clothed in religiosity. It makes my head spin and my heart wither. Church is no longer a safe haven for the broken and the oppressed. It has become a hunting ground for predators, a stage for narcissists, and an MLM for shysters.

Maybe we’ll finally learn what came of her IHOPKC investigation.
