Antisemitism is shamefully rising across the globe, and it's going to take all of us to tackle it. Yesterday I met leaders from the J7 to discuss this unique hatred targeting Jewish communities and to learn from each other's experiences and approaches. By listening, learning and sharing what works, we can strengthen our response to antisemitism and help ensure Jewish people in our communities can live safely and confidently.

7 October 1943 | A transport of 1,260 Jewish children and their 53 caretakers arrived at Auschwitz from Theresienstadt ghetto. They were all murdered in a gas chamber on the same day. The children came from the Białystok ghetto. Their parents were shot during the ghetto uprising, which took place between 16 and 20 August 1943. A few days after the uprising, the children were transported from Białystok to Theresienstadt. Our short video shows the ruins of the gas chamber and crematorium III: youtube.com/shorts/ipQmBPAlJ…

Today, we’ve confirmed our first Labour & Co-operative candidates for the 2027 local elections. As our electoral pact with Labour turns 100, they’ll champion shared ownership, stronger communities and more power for people to shape the future of the places they call home.

Why men in their fifties are now the group most at risk of suicide. We must do more as a country to tackle this tragic phenomenon. I’m proud of the government’s first Men’s Health Strategy, and the good work from colleagues at @DHSCgovuk. This will also be a key theme in our cross-government Men and Boys work. But the challenge is stark, and it is one for all of us, not merely government. @samaritans thetimes.com/article/cb54fab…

I have many friends who consider themselves Zionists and support Palestinians’ right to self-determination and the establishment of a Palestinian state. They are doing enormous work to help make that state a reality. I am an actual Palestinian. I support my people’s right to self-determination, call for an end to the Israeli occupation, and expose settler terrorism every day. Yet I have been called a “Zionist” simply for speaking out against Hamas’s crimes against Palestinians and Israelis. So what is the point here?
The test is simple. Ask 2 questions: 1) do you consider yourself a Zionist? 2) do Palestinians have a right to self-determination in Israel-Palestine? If 1 yes 1 no, you are a Zionist and a racist If 2 yeses, will you be universally recognised as a Zionist by other Zionists?

Zionism to most reasonable people simply means the right of Jewish people to self determination and their own safe homeland. This is entirely compatible with a) support for the Palestinians to enjoy exactly the same and b) intense dislike of the Netanyahu administration. 1/2

Once again. The reason why the motion is antisemitic and racist is because in its narrowest interpretation it gives permission to discriminate against Jews based on a unmeetable litmus test. And conference today voted AGAINST safeguards against such a narrow interpretation.

Are @Worthing_Greens @AdurGreenParty councillors delegates to the Green Party Conference, and if so, will they publicly declare how they will vote on this motion? I hope they will read this column by Jonathan Freedland and vote it down. theguardian.com/commentisfre…

Let's be honest. A lot of young people have stopped believing they'll ever own their own home. That's what happens when rents are high, house prices are high, and saving for a deposit feels impossible. My Labour government is stepping in to help. With Your First Home, first-time buyers will be able to buy a new-build home with a deposit of just 2.5%. Because hard work and saving should count for something. And because the dream of owning your own home shouldn't belong only to those with help from the bank of Mum and Dad.

If you are at Labour conference on Monday evening (or just generally in Liverpool), come to the Restoration reception at Black Lodge Brewing. I'll say a few words about how Labour historically distinguished itself from Liberals by being the party of and by working-class people, who through organised labour and the Labour Party achieved power themselves. To the extent Labour has always had middle-class people in it, the understanding was they worked *with* not *on behalf of* the working-class. Middle-class socialists could be in Labour but the party did not belong to them. This contrasted with high-handed Liberals who saw themselves as doing things *for* the working-class, but otherwise viewed them as helpless, incapable, or misguided. Politics as charity, basically. Sadly, far too much of the latter attitude has pervaded Labour in recent times. Restoration is doing its bit to push back. eventbrite.co.uk/e/restorati… – at Oxford, England

We've all heard someone say 'school wasn't really for me’. And we should think about why that is. Our system is set up to reward young people who thrive in academic subjects and exams, but what about those who learn best by getting stuck in and doing things? Too often they're left behind. So we’re introducing new vocational GCSEs - proper, nationally recognised qualifications giving young people practical, hands-on learning that they can study alongside Maths, English and Science. And we’re creating 200,000 more work experience opportunities, so every teenager gets the chance to experience the world of work before they leave school. A one-size fits all approach simply doesn't work - I want to build an education system that values both academic and technical paths and gives all young people hope that their future will be brighter, whether it starts at university or not.

Great news for Woking. A Labour Government backing British industry, skilled jobs and opportunities for young people, with McLaren investing £500m and Woking at the heart of it. We’re proud McLaren calls Woking home. Let’s make the case for the new UK assembly plant to be here.
Britain should be a country that makes things. It's how we create good jobs, give more opportunities to young people, and build pride in our communities. That's why today’s announcement from McLaren matters. They’re backing Britain, keeping design, engineering and manufacturing here at home - with plans to build their engines in-house for the first time. Their £500m investment will drive growth far beyond their factory gates, creating a thousand jobs, supporting thousands more in the supply chain, and providing apprenticeships to young people. This is what reindustrialising Britain looks like.
