Somatic mutations accumulate in “normal” non-cancerous tissues (blood, skin, liver). But why are mutant clones selected? Do they merely proliferate more, selfishly? Or can clones adapt to disease? Could they protect tissues? We shed light on this: authors.elsevier.com/a/1gua9… 1/10

I have noticed this cultural change as well. It is really nice :). I will say that at Penn, we are blessed to have a lot of supportive senior faculty, so the change is less noticeable here :).

Same (which I only realized very recently). In elementary school I ran into some kids whose debating strategy was to put their fingers in their ears and shout "I can't hear you!" whenever you tried replying to them. Apparently some academics have not outgrown this.

In my experience, RNA-seq (while better than qPCR) is still not particularly accurate. See here for comparison to RNA FISH. And that's on a *log* scale. Accuracy is actually quite poor, even if it gets broad strokes right.
New preprint from our group. Q: How accurate is bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing? A: Not as accurate as we expected. In fact, at the single-cell level, PCR bias has a significant effect. We quantify this experimentally. A 🧵 biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… #SingleCell

Excited to share that my recent work done @BristolBiochem is out now. Using single molecule magnetic tweezers, ensemble assays and nanopore sequencing here we found how CRISPR-Cas12a performs sequential ds DNAbreaks. @CRISPRjournal @nanopore nature.com/articles/s41589-0…
