I find it amazing that the UK, an island off mainland europe, managed to build up car manufacturing to the point where it rivalled Germany in 2016. That was pretty good going for the UK. Then the Brexit vote hit and killed it.
The decline of the British car industry came in two Brexit stages. 1. Uncertainty post-referendum weakened the industry 2. Trade arrangements that replaced EU membership did lasting damage. ukandeu.ac.uk/from-pace-sett…

The amount Jackdaw will cut bills: £0 The number of jobs it will support: 27 The net cost of Jackdaw & Rosebank to our economy: at least £90 billion. Life's too short to pretend that calls to drill baby drill are anything other but a fast track for us all to burn baby burn.

Eu membership widens the market both for new member countries and existing ones. This is a financial opportunity not a burden.

For those mocking the PM for going on Gogglebox: It's for Stand Up to Cancer. For those mocking his tattoo: It's the Manchester Bee, done after the Manchester Arena Attack, where 22 died and 100's more were injured.

Britain used to be a member of the EU. Now some politicians want us to celebrate the possibility of a customs union. It's rather like losing your house and being told to cheer up because someone might let you use the garage. Can we please raise our ambitions?

Energy profits should have built national wealth, not private fortunes. Instead, ordinary families face eye-watering bills while shareholders cash in. Imagine what those profits could have done for heating, housing and the NHS. Public resources should benefit the public.

Gent wonders why the UK isn't doing what Norway did with putting energy profits into a sovereign wealth fund. Who's going to tell him that we've nearly exhausted all of the oil and gas in the North Sea, and that politicians preferred to extract profits rather than invest them for our national security. That is the real failure: politicians treated a finite national resource like ordinary income. Now they point to the small amount left as a reason to keep drilling, when the lesson should be to invest what remains and build lasting wealth through clean energy, industry and infrastructure.

Bill Clinton: “I’m tired of the way we treat our allies like dirt. And just last week, President Trump finally did what he threatened to do when he first ran, which is to abandon Ukraine and embrace Vladimir Putin all over again.” I hope the American people are also tired of it

🇺🇦🇷🇺 BUDANOV SAYS PUTIN HAS REACHED A DEAD END Kyrylo Budanov 🇺🇦 - "Everyone understands this is a collapse. Putin has reached a dead end: he can neither end the war nor win it. Victory is no longer possible for objective reasons. But to stop the war would mean admitting that Russia is not as strong or as great as he wanted." Budanov’s point is that Putin is trapped by the war he created. He cannot achieve the victory he promised, but ending the war would expose the failure behind Russia’s imperial myth. That is why Moscow keeps fighting. Not because it has a real path to victory, but because admitting defeat would mean admitting that Ukraine broke the image of Russian power Putin built his regime around.

And we know “scripture” cannot give us objective truth or morality because scripture is wielded effectively by both sides of nearly every moral debate. As for “truth” @HewittRincrast, truths like math, physics and chemistry will exist after humanity and its many gods are gone.

… animals developed instincts of equity and fairness - instincts we see them display today. Our morality and ethics are as “relative” and “arbitrary” as our height, weight and muscle mass. We know this - it’s not in dispute.
