Submerged for 210 days. There is now even greater pressure on the submariners as well as the obvious risks around having nuclear reactors, missiles and nuclear warheads on board old tin cans. Heads in the sand does not come near it. navylookout.com/royal-navy-s…

They did this after previous protests. Looks like a tactic to avoid images of Scottish police dragging peaceful pensioners around.

Looks like Jonathon Porritt has just been arrested outside the Supreme Court for showing support for Palestine Action. The reverend Sue Parfitt will probably be arrested soon as well.

When is there going to be a reckoning with the warmongers? Iran is the West's *fourth* strategic military defeat this century - on top of Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. Yet cheerleaders for war still populate the media and politics - with no accountability.

A concrete way for you to strengthen international humanitarian law would be to join the global majority of countries and ratify the TPNW. #nuclearban
Some things are not permitted in wartime, such as bombing a hospital, targeting civilians and preventing the wounded from receiving medical treatment.

Today and tomorrow, #Switzerland and the @ICRC are bringing together representatives from more than 100 States in #Geneva, as part of the Global IHL Dialogue, to find concrete ways to strengthen respect for the rules of international humanitarian law.

What makes a "nuclear umbrella" poisonous? One toxin is the real uncertainty that the umbrella would in fact be in place if there was real danger, an actual attack, conventional or nuclear. How much trust can reasonably be placed in a world power which puts its own interests first? The second toxin is based on how the umbrella offer is used to keep client states in line – a sort of protection racket. But it is the third element in the venom that is most deadly. A nation that welcomes the proffered umbrella accepts that nuclear weapons may be used on its behalf and thus could become party to mass murder and, potentially, a global catastrophe.

I write about the end of the world b/c I believe in preventing it. Man made problems have man made solutions. The way to change the ending is to act before the story begins. 🟢Read NUCLEAR WAR: A SCENARIO 🔵Read BIOLOGICAL WAR: SCENARIO At bookstores + libraries everywhere. Or listen to me read the audio book.

The problem is, there is no such thing as "iron-clad assurance" (and it's not the best way anyway)
The best way to prevent a country from pursuing nuclear weapons is to provide iron-clad assurance that it will be protected if attacked by a nuclear-armed state. European allies are concerned about the U.S. commitment, so France is stepping up.
