I had to get a police record. The process worked seamlessly. The office is cool & comfortable & clean. Smell alright too. Staff were brisk & courteous. Felt good about seeing my taxes put to good use in this instance.

Jamaica’s oldest living Olympian turned 100 years old in July. Hyacinth Walters 🇯🇲 helped pave the way for Caribbean sprinting. She emerged following World War II, representing her nation for the first time at the CAC Games in Barranquilla, where she won a bronze in the 50m and teamed up to win a silver in the 4x100m relay. At the very same competition in 1950, she swept her events and walked away with three gold medals in 50m, 100m, and 4x100m. Walters qualified for the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, much to her delight. She had missed the previous Olympics in London, largely due to the economic difficulties of the newly formed Jamaica Olympic Association. At the 1952 Olympics, she cemented her place in history by being one of only two female athletes to represent her country, and while she was unable to make it out of the qualifying rounds of the 100m and 200m, she laid down the foundation for all the athletes since. After winning a pair of silver medals at her third consecutive CAC Games in 1954, she retired from the sport and relocated to New York and later Miami following her 90th birthday. As of 2026, Hyacinth Walters remains one of the oldest living Olympians in the world.

What are the projected savings from these measures? Where will the sums saved be then applied?
The Holness administration is further clamping down on spending and has issued a directive placing a tentative pause on the acquisition of assets, new lease agreements and the hosting of retreats at hotels by the public sector. READ MORE HERE: nationwideradiojm.com/govt-p…

A friend of mine was getting married, and despite her parents’ nasty divorce, she was excited about her big day. Her mom had found a beautiful dress to wear to the wedding when she found out her ex-husband’s much younger new wife had bought the exact same one! The bride begged her dad’s new wife to pick something else, but she refused. “No way! I look great in this dress, and I’m wearing it!” When her mom heard what happened, she just smiled and said, “Don’t worry, honey. I’ll find something else. It’s your big day, and I don’t want to cause any problems.” A few days later, they went shopping and found an even prettier dress. While they were having lunch, the bride asked, “Mom, what are you going to do with the first dress? It’s not like you’ll have another occasion to wear it!” Her mom smiled and said, “Oh, don’t worry, sweetheart. I’m wearing it to the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding!”

To support us moving towards using more electric vehicles, can we have more vehicle chargers centrally located in existing and new housing developments, please? Naturally, a feasibility study should be done to gauge interest. @darylvazmp @myJPSonline @matthewsamuda
While Jamaica, like most small island developing states, hasn’t contributed to the carbon emissions that cause global warming, Kingston’s promise to pass climate accountability legislation is a move in the right direction. Read more: jamaica-gleaner.com/article/…

Only that get banned? 🤔
🔘 DEVELOPING: Jamaica restricting official travel until end of March 2027 The Jamaican Government has imposed an immediate ban on official overseas travel by ministers and public sector officials until March 31, 2027, except in special circumstances. This coincides with mounting scrutiny on government spending amid a slow Hurricane Melissa recovery and rising inflation, one year after the disaster. ▫️The directive, issued by Cabinet Secretary Audrey Sewell, applies across the public sector, regardless of whether travel is funded by taxpayers or external organisations.  ▫️The Government says the unprecedented destruction caused by Hurricane Melissa demands strict spending controls, with financial resources and the attention of senior officials focused on reconstruction, economic recovery and public services. ▫️ Previously approved trips must be reviewed, while non-essential conferences, training and ceremonial engagements should be deferred or conducted virtually. ▫️Overseas travel may only be permitted for post-Melissa reconstruction and recovery, national security, approved board meetings, essential tourism promotion and genuine emergencies of compelling national importance. ▫️ All exceptions require prior written approval from the Cabinet Secretary, supported by justification of the necessity of the trip, cost and expected benefits.
