Howard Zinn: "To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness. 1/4

President Sheinbaum rightly highlights the role of US guns in fueling cartel violence. I mapped the thousands of gun dealers along the border states—nearly 9K. If the US is serious about fighting cartels, it must confront its own arms industry. #USMexico datawrapper.de/_/XlHLl/

Yes, Mexico Has Deep Narco Corruption, But So Does The USA
- Border Agents working with cartels
- CIA has worked with traffickers
- U.S. gun shops sell to cartels
- Cartel snitches get sweetheart deals
- U.S. banks launder drug money

Listening to longform NPR story about Haitian and Mexican illegals going to work en masse at slaughterhouses in the Midwest under such brutal conditions—losing limbs on spine splitters, covered in blood and guts, abusive hours, describing themselves as “slaves”—that even for desperate immigrants the attrition rate is so high that there’s a never-ending need for more employees who get lied to by recruiters and suffer horrifically on their path to the US, sometimes dying, leaving their families behind, enduring excruciating hardship…
And the punch line to this story is that we must do everything possible to prevent Trump and evil republicans from enacting “harsh” immigration laws/practices to do something about this state of affairs.
The cognitive dissonance is breathtaking.

It's probably helpful to understand that Mexico views the drug trade issue and related bizarre levels of violence as being a plague visited upon them because their northern neighbor is full of drug addicts with way too much money.

To all of my friends, family, and followers in both Canada and Mexico… please know that enlightened, educated, and intelligent Americans did NOT vote for this bullshit.

What MAGA fails to understand is we live in a world. Americans travel. They live abroad. They do business with other countries. Trump is making all of us hated and loathed. Relationships require reciprocity. How do you think will end?
Fundamentally, think Trump and his allies are pissed because the president of Mexico (a woman no less) told them to f**k off.
These workers, of course, will blame Honda and Toyota, not Trump and his tariffs.

Your prices are about to shoot through the roof because Trump decided to talk out of his ass about making Canada a state and the Mexican President told him to fuck off. That's it. Don't dare fucking cry or blame Biden for any of it. This is the Republican recession.
Perhaps a silver lining to all of the Trump insanity re: tariffs?
Here at Truth Matters, I like to try and cover all the angles. Have you ever heard of the ‘Minimis Exception’ for goods shipped to the U.S?
I’ll let Mia Sato, (@MiaRSato) a tech reporter at the Verge explain in more detail.

Between Trump and Sean Duffy, in American history we have never witnessed gaslighting and dumbfuckery of this magnitude after a tragedy. With the only requirement being fealty, Trump literally hired the most unqualified and incompetent cabinet in history.

This is one of the most common misconceptions about immigration law.
Merely being in the US unlawfully is not a crime. It's a civil violation. You may not like that, but that's the law. A White House press secretary (and the Heritage Foundation) should know this.
Reporter: How many of the illegal aliens deported so far have a criminal record?
Karoline Leavitt: All of them because they illegally broke our nation’s laws.

Illegal entry (unauthorized border crossing) is a criminal misdemeanor offense.
Unlawful presence (overstaying a visa) is not a criminal offense and is punishable by civil penalties, including deportation or removal.

Being in the U.S. unlawfully can result from either a civil or criminal violation, depending on how the person entered. Overstaying a visa is a civil offense, but entering the U.S. illegally is a federal crime under 8 U.S.C. § 1325.

Celebrating the destruction and punishment of families, cheering the brutalization of parents who want a better life for their children, and swooning over police rounding up nonviolent people at school are the cornerstones of modern nativism.

75% of immigrant farm workers didn’t show up yesterday in Bakersfield because of fears of ICE raids under the new presidency.
America’s rural and agricultural regions will be the hardest hit from Trump’s immigration policies. Food prices are going to skyrocket.

If your Christianity causes you to be offended by someone asking the most powerful person in the country to be merciful towards the powerless, then you have deeply, deeply misunderstood the teachings of Jesus Christ.
