In observation of the International Day of Political Prisoners, we are gathering today evening (5PM ET) at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. to honor political prisoners all over the world. At this event, I will have the opportunity to read out loud the names of our detained comrades in Uganda, including those who have been recently released. Special thanks to the October 30 Coalition and the National Endowment for Democracy who have facilitated this to ensure that the world never forgets about those unjustly persecuted for their political opinion.

𝗥𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝟵𝟮𝟭𝟯 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 @rotaryd9213 concluded a successful Presidents' Retreat in Gulu City, bringing together Rotary Club Presidents and district leaders to reflect on achievements from the first 100 days of the Rotary year and renew their commitment to delivering greater impact in the months ahead. Hosted by District Governor @dgrotaryd9213, the retreat served as both a celebration of progress made and a rallying call for club leaders to accelerate action towards the district's ambitious goals. Addressing the Presidents, DG Obai acknowledged the challenges of leadership and thanked them for their unwavering dedication to service. "When this Rotary year comes to an end, what will truly matter is not what we accumulated, but whose lives are different because we served. It is the member who found a reason to stay, the community that found hope, and the club that grew stronger because we refused to give up on one another.” The Presidents reaffirmed a simple but powerful promise: 'Governor, you will never walk alone.' The retreat renewed focus on District 9213's strategic priorities for the 2026-27 Rotary year, including; 1. Growing membership 2. Strengthening service impact and expanding Rotary's reach across Uganda. 3.  Increasing support to The Rotary Foundation 4. Strengthening the Enhancing Road safety Initiative. DG Obai challenged leaders to remain focused on the purpose behind their work. As D9213 enters the second quarter of the Rotary year, club leaders recommitted themselves to increasing community impact through sustainable service projects. The first 100 days demonstrated what is possible when Rotarians work together. The next 100 days present an opportunity to build on that momentum and Create Lasting Impact through service. #RotaryEyamba| #RotaryKonyo| #RotaractLegacy

I am thrilled to share that I have been selected as one of the Top 5 @CNN Heroes of 2026 out of thousands of nominations worldwide. When I became Uganda's first #wildlife veterinarian, I never imagined that caring for mountain gorillas would lead to a movement linking public health, conservation and sustainable livelihoods. Through @CTPHuganda we've seen that when communities thrive, gorillas thrive. Our work with over 10,000 households has helped the Bwindi gorilla population grow by over 50%. This recognition shines a light on Uganda and on the One Health approach for the whole world. The final winner is decided by your vote. I humbly ask for your support: Vote here: edition.cnn.com/world/heroes… Voting is open now until November 29, 2026. 10 votes per day. Together, we can show that the world cares about gorillas and people co-existing. #CNNHeroes2026 #CNN #walkingWithGorillas #OneHealth @LillyAjarova

🚨 Mourinho on Ronaldo’s rivalry with Messi and how he fought back to make it 5-5 in the Ballon d’Or race: “People look at Messi’s 8 Ballon d’ors and Cristiano’s 5 today, and they forget what happened between 2008 and 2017. I have enormous respect for Messi. Fantastic footballer. But I also have enormous respect for the man who refused to let Messi have the whole stage to himself. Cristiano won his first Ballon d’Or at Manchester United in 2008. Then Messi won in 2009. And 2010. And 2011. And 2012. 4 consecutive years. Do you understand what that does to a footballer? You’re scoring goals, winning matches, working every day, and every December you’re watching the same man collect the award. For most players, after the 3rd or 4th time, they accept it. They say, ‘Okay, he’s the best. Maybe I can be second.’ Not Cristiano. I remember being at Madrid and seeing how personally he took these things. You could congratulate him for scoring twice, and sometimes he’d be more interested in the chance he missed. I’d tell him, ‘Cristiano, we won.’ He’d say, ‘Mister, I know. But I could have scored another.’ That’s the mentality you’re dealing with. When Messi was winning those awards, Cristiano wasn’t sitting there wondering how to become more popular. He was asking himself how to become more dangerous. And look at what happened. 2013, Cristiano wins. 2014, Cristiano wins again. Messi comes back in 2015. Now it’s five against three. People start talking as if the competition is finished. Then Cristiano wins the Champions League and the European Championship in 2016. Another Ballon d’Or. Four against five. In 2017, Madrid win La Liga and another Champions League. Cristiano scores twice against Bayern in Munich, then three in Madrid. Three against Atletico in the semi-final. Two against Juventus in the final. These weren’t goals against teams who had already given up. These were the biggest matches of the season. And in December, he’s holding his fifth Ballon d’Or. Five against five. I want people to understand something. Messi didn’t suddenly become a worse footballer. Cristiano simply refused to stop chasing him. That’s why I laugh when people speak about Cristiano’s obsession with being the best as if it’s a weakness. Of course he’s obsessed. How do you think he got there? And then you have 2018. Cristiano helps Madrid win a 3rd consecutive Champions League. He leaves for Juventus. Luka Modric wins the Ballon d’Or, and Cristiano finishes 2nd. I respect Luka. Wonderful footballer. But you cannot tell me Cristiano had no argument for winning his 6th. People can debate the voting, the importance of the World Cup, the influence of changing clubs. That’s football. But imagine being Cristiano, looking at everything you’ve done, and believing you could have gone ahead for the first time. Of course that stays with you. And I think even Messi supporters, the ones who genuinely love football, understand what Cristiano brought to that rivalry. Messi had somebody who could answer him. When Messi did something extraordinary, there was another man capable of doing something extraordinary the following week. People who didn’t even support Barcelona or Madrid were watching. They were arguing about goals, trophies, records. Some people became football supporters because they wanted to see which one would win. That’s what Cristiano gave the game. You can prefer Messi. You can believe Messi is the greatest player you’ve ever seen. I have no problem with that. But don’t tell me Cristiano was simply fortunate to exist in the same era. He made that era competitive. For 9 years, from his first Ballon d’Or to his fifth, he kept finding another level whenever people thought he had reached his limit. And perhaps that’s the greatest compliment you can give Cristiano Ronaldo. He saw a footballer the world was ready to place above everybody else. And instead of accepting second place, he made the world argue about first.”

This boda man! So he starts conversation and tells me he once carried a pretty plump lady and they got to a pub where the lady said she had to wait for someone to bring her money. She promised to add 10k to what they had agreed. She sat and started drinking while he remained on his boda. After a while, she went to him and apologised for keeping him bored. She invited him to drink with her. They drunk, then later got up and started dancing. “Yansaba munyige sikwiizi, era namunyiga nga sirina gwenebuuzizzaako. Namunyiga nzenna nentuyana nga bwenebaza Mukama ekisa kyankoledde”. They later went back and sat. That’s when his head started rotating. He regained consciousness to find himself in hospital, and the bike gone. “Paka kati nkyasasula loan muganda wange”. I couldn’t hold back the laughter. He turned and said to me: “Blaaza osese busesi?”

No parent should watch their child lose the ability to walk from a disease we can prevent. No child should pay the price for a missed vaccination. For decades, @Rotary has stood at the forefront of the fight to end polio. From our cities to our most remote villages, we must keep going until every child is protected. Today on this #WorldPolioDay, let us unite for a polio-free world. One child. One vaccine. One promise. #EndPolioNow #RotaryEyamba #RotaryKonyo

Amazing true story: On a pouring Sunday morning in Georgia in 2014, TunDe Hector hit rock bottom on the shoulder of a slick highway. Enduring a painful divorce and severe financial hardship, she watched helplessly as her fuel gauge dropped to empty and her car sputtered to a halt. She had a single $5 bill in her pocket, an empty gas can in her hand, and miles of cold rain between her and the nearest filling station. Minutes later, Chris Wright drove past on his way to church with his family. Spotting the solitary woman trudging through the downpour with a gas can, he felt an unmistakable tug on his conscience. After dropping his wife and children off at the church doors, he looked at his wife, Carmen, and said, "I have to go back. I have to help her." Chris turned his vehicle around, pulled onto the shoulder, and offered TunDe a dry seat. He drove her to the nearest gas station and paid to fill her container. As they pulled back up to her stranded car, Chris felt another quiet prompting inside his chest telling him to empty his wallet. He reached into his pocket, pulled out $40, every dollar he had on him, and pressed the folded bills into her hand. TunDe wept right there in the passenger seat, thanking a man whose name she did not even know before they parted ways. Three years later, in the summer of 2017, tragedy struck the Wright family. Chris’s mother, Judy Wright, entered the final, devastating stages of Parkinson’s disease. Doctors informed the family that she had only weeks left to live and required immediate, round-the-clock hospice care at home. The family arranged for a private nursing aide, only for the scheduled caregiver to cancel at the very last minute. In her place, the agency sent a replacement certified nursing assistant: TunDe Hector. Neither TunDe nor the Wright family recognized one another when she walked through the front door. Over the following days, the family watched in awe as TunDe cared for their dying matriarch with extraordinary gentleness, dignity, and warmth. She spoke softly to Judy, prayed over her bed, and treated her with the devotion of a daughter. During quiet hours beside Judy’s bed, the family learned that TunDe dreamed of finishing nursing school, though she was currently locked out of registering for classes because she owed tuition money she could not afford. One afternoon during a shift change, the conversation turned to how faith carries people through impossible seasons. TunDe began telling the family about the lowest day of her life three years prior, describing how she had run out of gas in the pouring rain with only five dollars to her name, and how a kind stranger had circled back from church, bought her fuel, and handed her every dollar in his wallet. Across the room, Chris Wright froze. His jaw dropped, and tears immediately welled in his eyes. "TunDe," Chris whispered, his voice breaking. "That was me." They both removed their hats, looked closely at one another, and broke down crying in the middle of the living room. The woman Chris had rescued on the side of a lonely highway had been sent back into his life three years later to comfort his mother in her final days on earth. Two weeks later, on July 9, Judy passed away peacefully. It happened to be TunDe’s birthday. Even though she was off duty and celebrating with her own loved ones, the second TunDe received the phone call, she left her birthday party and rushed straight to the Wright home to comfort Judy’s widowed husband and prepare her friend one last time with dignity. Overwhelmed by her selflessness, the Wright family decided that simple thank-you notes were nowhere near enough. When they wrote Judy’s obituary, they included a special request: in lieu of funeral flowers, please donate toward TunDe Hector’s nursing school tuition. They set up an online fundraiser hoping to gather $1,000 to clear her past-due class balance. Within 45 minutes of going live, the fund surpassed its goal. Within days, the story of their full-circle encounter spread across the country, and strangers donated over $34,000, enough to pay for TunDe’s entire nursing degree. A single forty-dollar bill given in the rain had returned years later as priceless grace when a family needed it most.

Who saw him running a motor vehicle show on TV? Wow. I thought this dude must be the best I have seen. Even better than grand prix commentators. He spoke so fast, so accurate & made one almost place an order for the car he was talking about. Fast forward, he was into sports news. A few months later, he was bossing one of the best shows on television in this country. His football knowledge is so impeccable that you would think he reads every sports search engine in the world. Nothing he says including predictions goes against him. Only those of @ManUtd because he uses his heart more than his knowledge. He spearheaded a twitter space sponsored by Super Sport. He was kind enough to have me among others to discuss mainly EPL. This endeared many football twitter users who I could tell used the knowledge for football odds. Before we all knew it, he was gracing the World Cup arenas making live studios for Africa. Russia, Qatar, & the Americas, he never missed. We couldn’t wait to glean over World Cup news especially the off the field one. Seeing him host African stars on SS for Champions League games is refreshing. It’s like he’s been doing this for many seasons. He speaks fast without making any single howler. He oozes confidence, knowledge, and stage presence. His sense of humor is unmatched. Some of us miss his Runyankore skits. For those close to him, he’s not into football only. He’s into basketball, boxing, marathon, anything sports. His name is @andrewkabuura. Andrew, you make us proud as Ugandans. What do I think you will soon have permanent presence at SS or BBC sport? Who knows? I feel you haven’t revved even 50% of you football engine. Man, I respect you a lot. God bless you Andrew & your beautiful family. Kindly accept your flowers. @nextmediaug @NBSportUg
