Being able to get in a lot reading is one of the only good things about having a long commute on public transportation.
People that read books on the train are lowkey kinda performative 😭

I love how big food manufacturers finally got the deregulation they wanted and they couldn’t even play it cool. Just an immediate “oh yeah we will totally contaminate your food with shit, glass, and disease if unmonitored. ☺️”

when you say 'mercutio' everyone under 45 thinks of him. what are you talking about?
A genuine question for those defending every casting decision in The Odyssey… If someone adapted Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and completely reimagined the nationality, appearance, or traditional portrayal of several iconic characters… Would you still say: “The best actor should always get the role.” Or would you suddenly start talking about staying faithful to Shakespeare? That’s why this debate fascinates me. Should we judge every classic by the same standard… Or do we only defend creative freedom when it’s our favorite director

You should get hate. Who doesn't want to celebrate their friend's or family's lives? You're not obligated to give a big gift.
Probably going to get hate for this, but I have similar feelings towards baby registries for couples who waited a long time to have a baby as I do for wedding registries for couples who have been cohabitating for years. I'm still going to get you something and I am happy you are having a baby, but you are 40 year old lawyer and pharmacist with a $3000 stroller on your registry; I just don't have the same sense of urgency as for the registry for the 28 year old HS teacher and basketball coach who had to pay for fertility treatments

sometimes a book is five stars because it's a masterpiece. sometimes it's five stars because it made my brain release dopamine. both are valid.

Seeing as how the mere idea of a ten-minute chat with a professor to defend an essay being authentic is sending so many of you into hysterics, I shudder to think how you would react to the genuinely grueling academic rite of passage that is preparing and defending a dissertation.

It depends! My dad showed me gone with the wind, north by Northwest. Sabrina, etc. & my mom/ grandma showed me classic musicals like the sound of music & my fair lady.
People out here acting like 80s and 90s kids regularly watched movies from the 50s and 60s.

To give you a sense of how quickly the parenting world has gone insane, I'm a Millennial and my friends and I all worked as babysitters when we were like 12
Replying to @HighHeelEsquire
She is THIRTEEN. If she was 16 or 17, yes this would be crazy overbearing. What are they doing at just 13 they don’t want the mom to see? She’s too young to be totally unsupervised. I don’t think this is too much at all. They’re babies.

I could not agree more. There are many that span the whole nation & regional ones like Appalachian lore, Lovecraft country's cosmic horror, southern gothic's bayous or decrepit plantations, the aliens/cryptids in the northwest & southwest, etc.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot, and I’m realizing there’s plenty of Americana inspired fantasy but it’s all horror.

Anthrax, botulism, & cholera are all bacterial products from the earth. Belladonna, jimson weed, & yew also are all from the earth too. The appeal to nature fallacy strikes again!
If it comes from the earth, your body recognizes it. If it comes from a lab, your biology pays the price.
