By the way, the greatest version ever put on film.
On St. Crispin's Day, October 25, 1415, an outnumbered English army under King Henry V won at Agincourt. Shakespeare gave him the greatest speech on brotherhood: "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers." It still stirs the heart. (Kenneth Branagh, Henry V, 1989)

Few poems describe a gentleman's character better than Kipling's "If—," and few men read it better than Sir Michael Caine. Have a great Friday.

I can’t divulge details at this point, but I have spoken to people close to my friend Sam Sey, and this is not a question of any deliberate law breaking. Anyone saying otherwise is not telling you the truth. And anyone rejoicing over his and his precious wife Annie’s difficulties in this situation is disgusting.
Do the "Christians" celebrating this have no fear of God? Samuel Sey is A) not an illegal alien and B) a brother in Christ. Praying for Samuel and his dear wife and family. May this be sorted out soon. Beware those who breathe lies and sow discord among brothers (Prov. 6:19).

I’m nearly 64, and I have 3 grown children (all married), and 9 grandchildren. My sons own their homes, and my daughter and her husband are making good progress towards buying a home in the next few years. But my practice with regard to their lives is not what I experienced when I became an adult. The passive, “you’re on your own” approach of my parent’s generation doesn’t make sense today. Inter generational success requires an inter generational approach. A premodern philosophy needs to be recovered and adapted to the contemporary world.

Old fashioned idolatry is back. I’m not talking about that evangelical appropriation of the term to mean getting your loves out of order. I mean the spiritual technology of antiquity in which images were used to snare spirits and to (seemingly) make them serve human interests through ingratiation. Our ancestors were fools for trying. They made themselves the slaves of the spirits in the process. Modernists sneer at this, but their betters in Silicon Valley are all in on this.

One of the truly great things about Calvin & Hobbes is that every single person has their own version of the voices in their heads.
The imagination budget was way bigger than the lumber budget 🙃 #CalvinandHobbes #ChildhoodFreedom

1) The way @joshlofthus reads posts like this is hilarious and a net positive for Christian X. 2) Preaching that men should cultivate martial skills and forsake pacifism is much different than “now we enter wartime Christianity” Biblical wisdom resists full pendulum swings into the opposite ditch.
Reading @dalepartridge tweets like a villain Part 2.

If this isn’t civil war, what is it?

In Greta Gerwig’s Narnia, Jadis uses magic to shatter the Eagle & Child. This is the real Oxford pub where Lewis, Tolkien, and the Inklings actually met and where the Narnia books were shaped. There is no narrative reason for it to appear. Its inclusion isn’t an accident, but a deliberate choice. In an adaptation already altering the source’s theology and metaphysics, the destruction of the physical site where those ideas were forged functions as a symbolic act: the origin point of the story is targeted and erased by the very antagonist the books exist to defeat. That is the definition of desecration, not homage.

No, I think most of the criticism about Keller is not because he was a-political, but because he was actually quite political. Keller not only spoke about politics, he spoke about specific politicians. Frequently. So much so, he was part of a secret meeting of evangelical leaders that were assembled to decide what they were going to do about the problem of evangelical support for Donald Trump. He also created a political taxonomy of which Christians he thought would be helpful in bringing about Christian renewal in the United States. He specifically placed Trump supporters outside the spectrum of those who would be useful partners. That was a very political assessment. That is not what someone does just because they want to keep everyone’s focus on the gospel.
Once you see that most of the attacks on Tim Keller are about keeping people away from the gospel and, instead, focused on worldly politics, you can’t really unsee it. Go scroll Tim’s old Twitter account and compare the number of tweets about the gospel to those of his critics.

Keller was the most political pastor of the moden era. The utter naïveté of people like Erick speaks to his skill, not his purity.

Again - not getting it. This young man doesn’t know what a grandfather is for, but he’s willing to chastise every older man he runs a cross for daring to slow down.
Replying to @SphereOverInch
The sheer volume of historical examples of men who were dangerous in their twilight & altered the course of history notwithstanding, I like how you accuse us of not getting it while substituting grandma to make your case. And how you substitute not being obese for Bruce Lee 😂

Bottom line, the bois just really really pathologically hate it when older men tell them they’re wrong.

“Age is no exception” is a crystalline example of the not-getting-it the bois are great at. In one sense true. In another AND MORE IMPORTANT sense if you try to guilt your g-ma for not lifting, or if you spend your twilight years trying to ‘stay dangerous’ - you’re failing life.
Wisdom is not solely displayed in gray hair, nor strength in muscle. The composition of either may be of little substance. These are not mutually exclusive. Applying all of Christ to all of life means maturing dominion over spirit, mind AND body. Age is no exception to this. This is not a game. My motivation is that Christians stop suffering the same diseases as the pagans because we abide by the same definition of food as they do, and refuse to clean up our own house.
