Financial abuse -
Controlling money, running up debts in your name, stopping you working, controlling what you can buy, using child support as punishment.

If risk assessments do not count him, they do not protect him.
Many DFV risk tools were validated primarily on female victims. If the questions do not capture his experience — monitoring and surveillance, false allegations, threats to take children away, financial abuse, technology-facilitated abuse, physical assaults that he is ashamed to report — his risk is scored as low when it is not.
Risk tools shape decisions. They shape safety plans, housing priority, legal protections, and police responses. A tool that cannot see his risk cannot protect him.
We need risk assessment that is evidence-based for all victims, including men. That means including experiences reported by male victims, testing tools with male samples, and training workers to recognise coercive control regardless of gender.
Protection starts with accurate recognition. If we do not count his risk, we do not protect him. And if we do not protect him, we leave him in danger.

Who does a man call when he's being controlled but has never been hit?
Where does he go first?
Does he even go?

Technology-facilitated abuse: stalking, GPS tracking, harassing messages, threats to share intimate images.
ANROWS: 97.6% of victims never report it to eSafety. 91.7% never report to police.
For male victims of family violence, online abuse after separation often goes uncounted.

It's pleasing to see that the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has established a Specific Interests group to focus on Men's Health, to coincide with Men's Health Week earlier this year. This new group is being chaired by Dr Alex Romain. The RACGP has several long-standing Specific Interests groups that seek to meet some of the needs of Women's Health. This new group is the first that specifically addresses Men's Health.
This is an important and overdue step towards addressing Australia's very substantial male health disparities.
Australian men die approximately four years younger than women, experience 1.6 times the fatal burden of disease, and account for tens of thousands of potentially preventable premature deaths annually...
Encouragingly, Dr Romain challenges the assumption that these inequalities are inevitable or that they simply reflect male self-neglect. The British-born GP can see great potential for system-wide improvements, from infrastructure to consultation style, on "how to make and design male-friendly services", and he believes much of it can be driven by general practice:
"We’re just starting from scratch, really, and we would like to integrate evidence that has been floating around the system for some time... It’s been growing over the last 25 years, but it’s time for the evidence to start informing how we work with men and how we function as GPs".
The Men's Health group aims to improve male-friendly healthcare, GP education, preventive care, research and policy.
Congratulations to the @RACGP, Dr Alex Romain and Deputy Chair Dr Greg Malcher for this welcome initiative.
Importantly, let's hope that it eventually translates into measurable improvements in the health and longevity of Australian men and boys...

Yes, men experience physical abuse too.
Hitting, slapping, choking, throwing objects, being attacked while sleeping, weapons.

Men can be victims too.
1 in 7 Australian men have experienced emotional abuse by a partner since age 15 — controlling behaviour, monitoring where he goes, who he sees, what he spends, isolating him from friends and family, financial control, constant put-downs and threats.
Emotional abuse does not leave a bruise, but it erodes safety, autonomy, and health. It makes him doubt his own memory. It makes him ask permission to live his own life. It follows him to work and into every room of his home.
We have made progress in recognising that abuse is more than physical. That progress must include men. Coercive control does not only happen to women. Financial abuse, technology-facilitated abuse, social isolation, and intimidation happen to men too.
If your definition of victim does not include him, your definition is incomplete. Abuse does not need a bruise to count. Men can be victims too.

Have you found meaning beyond just surviving after leaving the abusive relationship?
Does advocacy, mentoring another dad, or building community give you purpose?

Myth: Men can't be victims because they are stronger.
Fact: Abuse is about power and control, not size. You can be stronger and still be trapped.

Men who are abused by their partners are being lost to suicide, and rarely in a single moment. It happens across a chain of points where a man reaches for a way out and finds the door shut, and then reaches for the next and finds it shut too.
This episode walks through that chain one door at a time, and shows how each one can be held open instead.

IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE BIASED AGAINST MEN? THE RESEARCH SAYS YES.
A growing body of peer-reviewed research reveals something that’s getting very little attention: leading AI systems frequently favour females over equally qualified males.
Consider the evidence:
🔹 Moral double standards: Fulgu and Capraro (2024) found that GPT models judged harming males more acceptable than equivalent harm to females in certain hypothetical moral dilemmas.
🔹 Hiring discrimination: David Rozado (2026) tested 22 leading LLMs across 70 professions and more than 30,000 simulated hiring decisions. AI selected equally qualified female applicants 57% of the time, compared with 43% for males.
🔹 Relationship conflicts: An EMNLP study (2024) found that LLMs consistently favoured women over men when adjudicating interpersonal disputes.
🔹 Criminal justice:A 2026 study found that AI models recommended harsher sentences for male perpetrators harming women than female perpetrators harming men in otherwise comparable domestic violence scenarios.
🔹 Systematic overcorrection: Wang et al. (2024) examined ten LLMs and found seven demonstrated significant hiring bias against men in at least one industry. Researchers explicitly raised concerns about "reverse gender hiring bias and overdebiasing."
🔹 Female overrepresentation: Chen et al. (2025) examined AI-generated stories across 106 occupations, finding women substantially overrepresented, frequently accounting for 65–80% or more of generated characters.
Why is this happening?
AI results depend upon the data and training that they have digested. By attempting to correct the perceived historical discrimination against women, we have inadvertently introduced new discrimination against men through training, reinforcement learning and safety alignment.
Equality cannot mean correcting discrimination against one sex by introducing discrimination against the other.
As AI increasingly influences employment, education, justice and public discourse, these findings demand independent scrutiny, transparent auditing and genuinely sex-neutral standards.
Men and boys deserve equal treatment from Artificial Intelligence. Not preferential treatment. Equal treatment.

40% of domestic abuse victims are male yet abused boys and men are identified as “Male victims of violence against women and girls.” But, yeah, the world only cares about men…
New @ONS domestic and partner abuse figures show 40% of victims are male. ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationa…
However, given the erasure and lack of narrative about male victims from national organisations, you'd think it was 4%... @CollegeofPolice @npcc @ukhomeoffice @MoJGovUK #Enough

We think there should be 3 practical changes for a fairer system recognising male victims of domestic abuse, when it comes to sentencing, as we presented to Justice Committee at Stormont on the 17th Sep 2026.
