🇨🇦 MARK CARNEY SAYS CANADA WILL BE ON A PATH TO END HOMELESSNESS WITHIN 10 YEARS. Here’s the reality check. Finland is widely regarded as one of the world’s most successful examples of tackling homelessness. Decades of Housing First policies. Sustained public investment. Broad political support. Yet Finland still counted 4,579 homeless people living alone in 2025, an increase of 773 from the previous year. Now consider Canada. 🇨🇦 Approximately 65,000 people experiencing homelessness. 💰 Nearly $30 BILLION committed in federal measures over multiple years. 🏠 A goal of ending homelessness within a decade. But read Budget 2026 carefully. It promises to put Canada “on a path to end homelessness.” It talks about creating the conditions for success. And it relies heavily on provinces and municipalities to deliver housing operations, healthcare and support services. Here’s what taxpayers should demand: WHAT EXACTLY COUNTS AS SUCCESS? Zero people sleeping outdoors? Zero chronic homelessness? A measurable reduction in shelter use? And what happens if the ten-year deadline arrives and homelessness remains widespread? Nobody should oppose helping people find permanent housing. But ambitious social goals require measurable outcomes, transparent reporting and accountability for public spending. SPENDING $30 BILLION IS NOT THE SAME AS SOLVING A $30 BILLION PROBLEM. If Canada is serious about ending homelessness, show Canadians the annual targets, the housing delivery milestones and the results. BECAUSE “ON A PATH” IS A DIRECTION.
