Former JNU scholar Umar Khalid has approached the #SupremeCourt seeking bail in the 2020 Delhi riots larger conspiracy case. It may be recalled that Khalid was denied bail last year and an embargo was imposed upon him to approach the Court after prosecution has examined protected witnesses and after 1 year, whichever is earlier.
Khalid says the prosecution has failed to examine protected witnesses and 1 year embargo is about to expire, in such a scenario his prolonged incarceration would violate Article 21

In his Amaravati speech, @UmarKhalidJNU highlighted the incomparable contribution of Jamia Millia Islamia and its students in the movement for India's freedom. Even today, Jamia's students continue to create history with their consistent resistance of the fascist regime.
Jamia Millia Islamia has a history of standing up to power, and no government can erase that legacy. Jamia will continue to resist fascism, stand up for its people and fight for what is rightfully theirs. That is the legacy @UmarKhalidJNU speaks of, and that is the Jamia we know.
Former Supreme Court judge Sanjay Kishan Kaul has shared his views on the Supreme Court’s rejection of the bail pleas of @UmarKhalidJNU and @_imaams . Kaul said that imprisonment before conviction can itself become a form of punishment.

Must read article by former SC judge Deepak Gupta on why bail should have been & must be granted to Umar Khalid & Sharjeel Imam
You may remove books from libraries. You may bulldoze bookstalls at Durga Pujo Pandals. But you only go on to prove that your war is on ideas.
Your cowardly actions will ensure that these ideas spread like wildfire!

7 years ago, @UmarKhalidJNU understood the impact that laws such as CAA & NRC would have on oppressed people of India.
Today, as protests against SIR and CEC Gyanesh Kumar rock the country, his words continue to haunt this regime and expose their designs.

"वे डरते हैं!
किस चीज़ से डरते हैं वे,
तमाम धन-दौलत, गोला-बारूद, पुलिस-फ़ौज के बावजूद?
वे डरते हैं, कि एक दिन,
निहत्थे और ग़रीब लोग,
उनसे डरना बंद कर देंगे!"

You can cage the singer, but you cannot stop the song. Umar Khalid is in prison, but his words are out there, being read, and carried at the places of resistance.
If you haven’t already, buy a copy of Fractured Communities by @UmarKhalidJNU .

Much before he was arrested by the Delhi Police, @UmarKhalidJNU knew that something was being done to put him in his place.
This is a clip from an interview with Akash Banerjee, where Umar was being asked about being labelled anti-national.
At the protest in London, @UmarKhalidJNU ’s Fractured Communities was there too. People were raising slogans demanding his freedom, while his book found its way into the crowd.
