We’ve created a school system where the students who follow the rules get the least attention…because all the energy goes into managing the ones who don’t.

Baseball IQ The hardest thing to teach isn't physical mechanics. It's situational decision-making. Baseball IQ is what consistently separates good players from winning players. I'm taking a deep dive into how coaches can improve baseball IQ in the coming weeks. Follow.

Talked with a group of high school baseball players the other day. Interesting takeaway of the day: If 10% of high schoolers play in college, then 90% don’t. But there are kids who want to play in college, yet do the same things- same choices and decisions- as the 90% who don’t.

I don’t know how anyone can teach middle school for more than a week without realizing one thing: These kids need recess, bruh.

Sometimes the best prescription is fewer prescriptions We have developed a bizarre tendency in modern healthcare to equate more treatment with better treatment. I strongly disagree. Good medicine isn’t measured by how many prescriptions somebody takes. It should be measured by whether what we’re doing helps that person live longer, function better, remain independent and enjoy the highest possible quality of life. Sometimes that means adding a medication. Absolutely. But sometimes excellent medicine means removing one, reducing the dose, or realizing that the reason it was prescribed 5 years ago no longer exist

I hope that everyone understands that both parties hate us and will collapse this country. If you're celebrating political victories tonight then you've lost the plot.

Anyone else just tired of politics and every single thing being political? Can’t we just go back to a time when we all got along and life was simpler? Good grief 🤦🏼‍♀️

Alabama 8 spots ahead of Tennessee in CFP rankings is mind puzzling. Tennessee won head to head.

Some families are so obsessed with the D1 label that they'd rather their kid major in bench management than graduate with a degree and four years of meaningful playing experience. Good morning.

Holy shit. Spencer tore his ACL for the 4th time, 3 months ago. "I was gonna concede the spot... I said, I'll just go win it anyways... It's my 4th one, I'm 28 years old. I don't got many more tears left in me. I don't know if I will be back next year... I haven't wrestled in 16 freaking weeks man."

You don't make the baseball team in the SPRING. You make it RIGHT NOW. NOVEMBER. DECEMBER. JANUARY. FEBRUARY. When it's cold outside. When nobody's watching. When there's no lineup card, no scoreboard, no crowd, and no recognition. Somebody is getting STRONGER. Somebody is getting FASTER. Somebody is fixing that swing. Somebody is learning to COMMAND the baseball. And somebody is doing absolutely NOTHING, assuming they'll have the same starting spot they had last year. Here's the reality... LAST YEAR'S PERFORMANCE DOESN'T GUARANTEE THIS YEAR'S OPPORTUNITY. The player who was behind you in June might be ahead of you in March. Four months is a LONG TIME for a hungry ballplayer to close the gap. Don't wait until tryouts to prove you deserve to play. MAKE THE TEAM BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS. ⚾️

Back in 2023, I took my son Beacon to the Kids Freestyle National Tournament on a whim. We were in Utah for a wrestling camp, and the tournament was being held in Salt Lake City, so I thought, “Heck, why not?” If you’ve ever been to a USA Wrestling event, you know the stage is reserved for the finalist only. Unless your last name is Burroughs. Beacon was called for his first-round preliminary match, and, unprompted, he was assigned to the elevated platform to wrestle on the big mat. Although he hadn’t been wrestling long, people recognized the last name and gathered around the mat in the center of the arena to see what he had. He got tech-falled in the first period. He actually went 0-2 in the tournament and cried for about 30 minutes in the bleachers afterward. In that moment, he realized that greatness takes more than just DNA. Sure, we shared the same blood, but I couldn’t transmit my abilities to him through birth. He was going to have to earn them himself. Beacon was born into pressure. Carrying my last name made him a target and placed an enormous amount of expectation on his shoulders before he could even say the words “double leg.” However, pressure is a privilege. He’s learned to be a hard worker, and he loves to compete. So I knew that when we finally brought him back for another USA Wrestling event, he would be ready. This weekend, he had to earn his way back onto the stage—not because of his name, but because of his work. And this time, in the biggest bracket of his young career, he was prepared. The goal isn’t to be on the stage. The goal is to be prepared for it. The opponent. The nerves. The performance. He handled it all well, and I’m very proud of him. People ask me why I’m so relaxed about his development, and it’s largely because the world has already put enough pressure on him. I don’t want to compound it. I don’t know who he’ll become, but for now, we’re just enjoying the ride. And if he stinks, I have other sons. 😂 The beauty of expectations is that some people actually live up to them.
