If I hadn’t been allowed to discover that books could be FUNNY, I never would’ve stuck around to discover all the OTHER things they can be. Letting kids read what THEY want is the best first step toward helping them fall in love with reading.
Same tho.

Scholastic asks, "Do you want to opt out of 'diverse' books at your school's next book fair?" Your participation in white supremacy has never been easier, just uncheck the 'diverse' books box– poof, no problems. 🙄

First book for break! It felt right to bring Legends of Lotus Island: The Guardian Test by @soontornvat to Koh Samui. Loved this book. The kids are already asking me when I can get #2 into Lao 🤣 #TLchat #inTLchat

Books, even bad ones, let you live another life for a few hundred pages.
They let you walk in the souls of people you may never meet and connect you in ways you might not expect.

I’m a librarian and I read picture books to big kids but I make sure to ask them deeper questions and tell them why I love reading this to them.

one of my 7th graders just brought back a book and said "I realized I didn't like scary books," as they checked out a happy romance. And, yet again, this is why WE TRUST STUDENTS WITH THEIR OWN READING CHOICES. I cannot stress enough that kids GET this.
#LibrarianLife is fraught right now, but I’m so grateful for these kids keeping me on my toes and making me smile.

If you object so badly to a BOOK
that you call a BOMB THREAT
into the local Public Library
you are a DOMESTIC TERRORIST.
The dichotomy of my day. But riding high after this sweet kiddo’s visit to the library. #LibraryLife

From the books to the buildings, there is a fringe but dangerous faction out there that is bent on taking the right to safely use libraries away from us.
We can’t let that happen!

Reading is revolutionary!

My grandmother Bessie introduced me to libraries and would have definitely been a card carrying member!

“If you are upset about a book that discusses racism, then you should ask yourself, why? It challenges me and allows me to think; please do not deny me and my classmates a quality education.”
