Very timely today due to SCOTUS decision denying efforts by Health & Hospital Corp. of Marion County -- the state's largest nursing home owner -- to thwart a lawsuit over poor care at one of its facilities. But decision reaches much further.
Sharing this investigation again today for no particular reason at all. @indyemapolis @indystartony @starwatchtim indystar.com/in-depth/news/i…

In response to HHC's Supreme Court case, a top Democrat in the Indiana General Assembly suggests it might be time for lawmakers to re-evaluate if the Marion County health agency should be allowed to run nursing homes.
WE SHOULD ALL BE MAD!!!
Marion County agency wants SCOTUS to strip protections for millions of vulnerable Americans
United States citizens should be MAD that the Health and Hospital Corporation (HHC) is pursuing this lawsuit...it has cost $700,000 far.

This is chilling but reinforces what i’ve said previously. This wasn’t a “wrong decision.” It was cowardice.

With its invasion of #Ukraine, #Russia has brought suffering & pain as the number of victims of sexual violence continues to grow. No war is a justification for such crimes. I appeal to Russia’s soldiers & their superiors to put an end to their violence.

The Biden administration said all the states who asked for federal medical personnel got something by mid-March, though not necessarily as much as they asked for. Wisconsin asked for more than 200 federal workers and got 23, even as hospitals struggled to treat patients.

Faced with the crisis in early December, Biden announced he was sending out enough workers to help 60 hospitals. It was far from enough. At the time, more than 1,000 hospitals in 48 states reported critical staff shortages, a USA TODAY analysis of federal data shows.

Bungled hiring during the Trump administration crippled a push for more federal health workers; That left hospitals during COVID calling for help that simply wasn’t there.

Although Indiana law bans landlords from retaliating against tenants, lawyers and tenants say it happens all the time. I talked to Ms. Walker, who's been to the ER multiple times due to toxic mold in her apartment. She's now fighting against an eviction. indystar.com/story/news/real…

In Indiana, no one was accurately tracking jail deaths. So @starwatchtim & @ryanmartin did. They found inmates die every two weeks — many while awaiting trial. indystar.com/in-depth/news/i…
