For years, my father fell asleep watching a documentary about a man who lived a solitary life in a hand-built cabin in Alaska. This is my strange poem about that strange nightly ritual. Many thanks to THINK journal for giving it a home.

I’m not Catholic but I am a Christian and regardless of that, this is a work that is sorely needed in the world today. Intelligent thoughts, inspired by faith, on the value and responsibilities of being human and stewarding our tech and ourselves in these troubled times.

Humanists should be snobby about the fact that they are stewarding a tradition that stretches back thousands of years rather than doing busy work involving little technical puzzles. Instead they find dumb “research” niches to fill because STEM gave them an inferiority complex.

I'm convinced that the R1 model will always disfavor the humanities and liberal learning and that we need to be very savvy and strategic in how we understand ourselves and our place within that model. Very few humanists agree with me, I've found.

While all of us who are fortunate enough to be a part of the modern day literary renaissance owe @DanaGioiaPoet a debt of gratitude, @WisebloodBooks debt is both material and emotional. His relentless efforts have helped Wiseblood to not only grow, but to become one of the essential and foundational organizations of the contemporary literary revival. His faith in our mission has invigorated, and re-invigorated, us over the years, inspiring us to continue this work even when things seemed (and in fact were) too daunting and demanding.

Today, Elijah Perseus Blumov writes about the Epic of Gilgamesh!
"If all art, as I believe, constitutes an attempt to wrestle with the mystery and terror of human mortality, Gilgamesh is the most straightforward work of art that exists, an (ahem) Ur-text..."

Like most small ventures, @WisebloodBooks relies on the aid of our Patronsand supporters, seen and unseen, readers and writers who believe in our efforts to foster works of fiction, poetry, and philosophy that wrestle us from the ruse of distraction; find redemption in uncanny places and people; articulate faith and doubt in their incarnate complexity; dare an unflinching gaze at human beings as “political animals; and render well this world’s sufferings without forfeiting hope—all of this with an unflinching gaze, wide-eyed.
