There were two, distinct, campaigns running side by side. OEF was more kinetic, and primarily US (with support from the UK and a few others) and NATO ISAF, which was there to stabilise, train and assist, not execute seek and destroy. Many US pers never left the wire either.

Mistakes happen in Aerospace. Sometimes the holes in the Swiss cheese line up and things go wrong. When they do it’s important to find out what happened and why, while maintaining a Just culture so we can learn from our mistakes. #Hawk #avgeek Pic from @avherald

Well one bonus is that RIAT might be back on next year? #B1 #fairford

Great video of the Hawk that crashed today taking off, flames can be clearly seen at the top of the spine of the aircraft around the Microturbo area. Thankfully they banged out ok, no casualties #avgeek
Exclusive: a Hawk T2 getting airborne from RAF Valley, N. Wales. As it rolls down the runway flames appear from the rear of the jet. The Hawk T2 does not have reheat (afterburner). As the jet climbs the flames seem to disappear. The main Hydraulic system is on the rear left side.

Our charity exists to save lives at sea. Our mission is to save every one. Our lifesavers are compelled to help those in need without judgement of how they came to be in the water. They have done so since the RNLI was founded in 1824 and this will always be our ethos.

Hope Guy Mowbray puts the misery commentary onto Argentina tomorrow just like he did for England in the semi final. @5liveSport

Sounds like a decision was made. Fine, it was never my decision to make. A word of caution, though: When we let this slide we send a message to everyone from the T-6 drivers to the B-52 drivers that they can get away with it, too. And they will try. When – not if – something goes wrong, the press & politicians on both sides are going to hang everyone in the chain of command. There will be no safe harbors or protectors. The public will want heads. I can already see the headlines & it reads just like the B-52 crash at Fairchild. It will be a scandal. I don’t want the pilot to lose their wings, or even be kicked out of the military, but when there is no discipline, that sends a message.
