GitHub is hiding some absolutely insane stuff... I spent hours digging through it so you don't have to. 10 repos that feel illegal to know about: 1. github.com/imputnet/cobalt Paste any TikTok, Instagram, X, YouTube, or Reddit link and get the raw file back, no watermark, no ad, no login, no app. The thing a hundred scummy downloader sites fake with popups and malware, done clean and open. 39K stars. 2. github.com/searxng/searxng Your own private search engine that pulls results from Google, Bing, and 100+ others at once, while tracking nothing and showing zero ads. No profile, no logging, no IP tied to your searches. Google's answers without Google watching you type them. 3. github.com/AmruthPillai/Reac… Build, host, and track unlimited professional resumes, completely free and private, while every resume site online paywalls you the second you hit download. Over 800K users, no ads, no data selling. The job-hunt tax, deleted. 30K+ stars. 4. github.com/dgtlmoon/changede… Watch any web page and get pinged the instant it changes. A price drops, a job posting goes live, a competitor edits their site, concert tickets appear. The monitoring services that charge monthly for this do exactly what this does for free. 25K+ stars. 5. github.com/Suwayomi/Suwayomi… Publishers pressured the beloved manga app Tachiyomi until its team shut it down. The community turned it into a server you host yourself, thousands of sources on your own machine that no legal letter can reach. They killed the app and woke up the whole ecosystem. 6. github.com/LibreTranslate/Li… A translation engine that runs entirely on your own machine, offline, with no Google, no API key, no per-character fee. Feed it text or whole documents in dozens of languages. The thing companies pay Google Translate's API for, sitting on your laptop free. 12K+ stars. 7. github.com/mikf/gallery-dl Download entire galleries, whole accounts, full archives of images from hundreds of sites in one command, with every caption and piece of metadata intact. The bulk archiver people don't realize exists until they need to save something before it vanishes. 8. github.com/ArchiveBox/Archiv… Point it at any link and it saves a complete, permanent copy, the full page, a PDF, a screenshot, the video, all of it, on your own drive. When the article gets edited or the page 404s later, your copy still opens. Your personal Wayback Machine. 22K+ stars. 9. github.com/localsend/localse… AirDrop for every device. Send files between Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS over your own network with no account, no cloud, no size limit. Apple locked their best version inside their walls. This one works on everything, free. 10. github.com/dani-garcia/vault… The entire Bitwarden password server rewritten to run on a $5 box, with every paid premium feature unlocked, file attachments, hardware keys, vault health reports, free. Every official Bitwarden app syncs straight to it. The per-seat fee just stopped existing. 59K stars. Most people will scroll past this and keep paying for all of it. The ones who bookmark it never go back.
