For @testudotimes, @JudeWilkenfeld and I were outside Jones-Hill House trying to get players to comment. An athletics staffer took pictures of us, and a police dispatch was called for suspicious activity; a cop and 2 cop cars pulled up, and officers ID’d us and asked us to leave.

Georgia Tech vs Maryland Takeaways:
Welcome to the Maryland glaze fest.
- No Buljan today, No Valdes.
- Maryland is FLYING around on defense. They are everywhere, GT can’t do anything. I know GT is bottom 3 in the ACC but damn this defensive display is impressive.
- This team if you are squinting at the screen looks like one of Buzz’s best A&M teams. Blitzing to the ball , everyone is sprinting to help, to double. Buzz needs depth to make his system work and to Maryland fan’s relief this team finally has a ton of depth.
- Payne looks bouncy and more like his self from 2 years ago, monster on the glass and just a nuisance to keep in check on both ends. Physicality and relentless oh ya he’s back.
- Mills looks like he is taking an even bigger leap this year. Very in control, but still making things happen every time he touches the ball. Unquestioned leader and his unselfishness is contagious.
- DJ Wagner got going towards the end of the 1H. Confidence has always been his issue, and I feel like Buzz is going to be great for him. Some nice drives to the cup, gonna see continued improvement as his confidence grows.
- House is sick, active hands, not afraid, this kid is going to be very hard to keep off the floor. He has moxy, has some Wade Taylor in his game. Already plays like a vet, going to be fun watching him grow. My first thoughts were All Freshman Big Ten. Good shot - and more than just a good shot is that he shoots it with confidence. Buzz sure knows how to find these undersized guards doesn’t he.
- Baba - he looks timid at first, but you can see the ability. Going to need coaching and reps. The basketball skills are very nice, now they have to hone the x's and o's and decision making. He is the X factor and he’s a work in progress, if it clicks for him this year, this team is scary.
- McNair, I was skeptical of bc of his athleticism but he’s a great shooter definitely see a place for him in the rotation to get you a few buckets.
- Brown surprisingly got the start and showed a lot of effort. Need to see more of him to better assess. While he started he didn't play a ton of minutes.
- Boswell, Jennings, Turkson, all solid especially on the defensive end, no drop off in intensity. These guys are going to be key to holding the floor, but aren’t your difference makers. Think Boswell can give more than shown.
- Buzz started 2H with House, Mills, Baba, Jennings and Payne. So clearly he’s trying to look at this lineup. Personally I think the best 5 would be this and sub in Buljan for Jennings when he’s back. (House/Wagner will be a good tag team at PG)
- Held GT scoreless for 6 minutes at one point in the 1H
- Oh ya, GT played in this game as well!
- Update House is everywhere, he’s relentless, killing you getting to the line, killing you from deep, what a fit for Buzz and his system. Dude has elite thief hands.
- Anyway back to GT. Hard to say much good they are severely overmatched in this game, which is a bad sign. Looks like Maryland is playing a mid major.
- Fields is about the only guy who has flashed for GT in 1H, some good rim protection, a few buckets. Good finishing ability off the cut, when he does get the ball in the paint.
- Whitlock & Garland are struggling to initiate the offense, they just can’t get past the blitz, really hard to evaluate. Other than completely outclassed.
- Kayden Allen is intriguing prospect. Looks like a good athlete, just hard to see much of his game GT is playing panicked. But had a really nice poster.
- Tylis Jordan helping to spark a 10-2 run in 2H with 7pts, 1 nice drive, another good easy look in the post and a 3. They aren’t quitting, now only down 18. Ok Jordan is flashing now with confidence. GDP is covering him so he found a matchup he likes.
- I’m going to pause on GT and wait til we can see them again against Providence in 2 weeks. See if they always look this overmatched or if it’s just Maryland. Could be a long first year for Cross.
- GDP getting some good run in 2H, looks more comfortable in the system this year.
- Tambedou has a huge frame, needs polish, but a good fit for Buzz’s system another undersized hyper athletic glass monster waiting in the wings. He could definitely break into the rotation with time and reps. Buzz is coaching him hard, so you know he sees a lot in this kid. Could work his way to first big off the bench.
- K’Medehouto is very raw, I’d expect him to redshirt after seeing him.
Maryland sure looks like a top 25 team to me. This team is going to be annoying to play for Big Ten teams. Just such a different style. Reminds me of the A&M teams that finish 3rd/4th in the SEC. I feel they could be that high up in the Big Ten. Maybe be a surprise finisher at like 4th.
The bright spot for GT is the young wings all look like great athletes who can produce on both ends, but still very green. Guard play was just completely out classed. Gonna have to figure that out or it’s last place in the ACC. I’d put Wake ahead of them after seeing both.

UCLA head coach Bob Chesney on Maryland’s defense:
“This is as good a defense as we’ve played up to this point and might be one of the best fronts that we might even see all year. They’re that good.”
College Football Week 3 Best Bet: Maryland +3.5 -110 to win 1 unit. Maryland and Virginia Tech have faced very similar levels of competition through 2 games, so we have decent data to handicap this matchup. The differentiating matchup in this game will be the elite defensive line of Maryland that ranks 1st nationally in PFF pass rush grade and 15th nationally in run defense grade versus a Virginia Tech offensive line I am not sold on. This unit was a question mark for the Hokies heading into the season, and that question has not been answered through two weeks. A 68.8 Pass block grade and 68 run block grade is certainly not bad, but given the opponents it is not great either. VT allowed 4 sacks vs Old Dominion and was out gained on a yards per play basis 6-4.8. Maryland will also have a QB advantage with Malik Washington who has posted 3 big time throws season over Ethan Grunkemeyer who has yet to register a big time throw. The narrative that James Franklin owns Mike Locksley is irrelevant as this Virginia Tech team is not on the same talent level as the Penn State teams that blew out Maryland in years past. I love James Franklin, and am buying all the Virginia Tech stock for the next few years, but this line being 3.5 is too much for the home team with an elite pass rush and better quarterback. This would be a 2 unit play if I didn't have Maryland over win total already in pocket. Give me the Terps to win this game outright. Drop a like if you're tailing. #Gambling𝕏

Durr finds the endzone for the first time as a Terp & he’s now up to 103 yards on ten catches
Durr (103) & Na’eem Abdul-Rahim Gladding (130) now become the first Maryland players with 100+ receiving yards in the same game since Tai Felton + Jeshaun Jones vs. IU in 2023
Replying to @TrevorAGomes @Insideblackgold
A shanked punt and a penalty set Maryland up with prime field position.
The Terps cash in immediately with a dart from Malik Washington to Chris Durr.
Both are having monster games.
Washington: 33-of-39, 347 yards, 2 passing TDs
Durr: 10 receptions, 103 yards, 1 receiving TD
