1/ Most people talking about tokenization are actually talking about 3 different things. Securitization creates the financial product. Tokenization changes the rails. Fractionalization changes how ownership is divided. Mixing them up is why a lot of RWA conversations go nowhere.

5/ The interesting part is when all three come together. Imagine a portfolio of loans. You securitize the cash flows. Tokenize the securities. Then divide them into smaller investable units. You’ve changed the structure, the rails and the distribution. That is much more interesting than simply “putting an asset on-chain.”

We reviewed contracts, internal memos, police statements, court documents, and months of correspondence to understand how a commercial dispute between Naivas supermarkets, Kenya’s largest retail chain, and FlexPay, the Kenyan save-now-buy-later fintech, ended up in the hands of Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
