Apart from BioWare (Mass Effect), Maxis (The Sims), Full Circle (Skate) and Respawn (Apex Legends), #Battlefield developers Ripple Effect and Motive Studio have also been targeted by EA during sweeping layoffs.
EA's internal memo - first made public by Bloomberg - failed to specify which other studios would be affected. Vertical Slice has since reported that Motive Studio and Ripple Effect are among EA's targets, citing multiple LinkedIn posts by laid-off staff.
This has been corroborated by posts from Character Artist (Corey Thomas), Technical Animator (Juan Meza), and Technical Artist (Turner Spring) from Ripple Effect and posts from Concept Artist (Brandon Le) and Senior Gameplay Designer (Jamieson Shearer) from Motive Studio.
Corey Thomas: linkedin.com/posts/corweee_o…
Juan Meza: linkedin.com/posts/jjmeza_i-…
Turner Spring: linkedin.com/posts/turner-sp…
Brandon Le: linkedin.com/posts/brandon-l…
Jamieson Shearer: linkedin.com/posts/jamiesons…
The new round of cuts includes the elimination of 400 roles across EA. 50 workers were affected at BioWare. The other 350 job cuts come from Maxis, Full Circle, Respawn, Ripple Effect and Motive Studio.

So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.
Finally, a real game you can play with your kids.
I spent years helping build World of Warcraft. Then I watched MMOs automate the people out.
So we're building Haven: a beautiful WoW meets Valheim, made for families, where cooperation is the win condition. 🧵

Been working on a custom tool for pixel art normal map and luminance mask generation/editing.
Thinking of releasing it for free under an open-source license.
Would any gamedevs be interested in this?
I saw this video on Reddit of DuneCrawl, which uses my Asset Forge for sketching. I love it, in fact, I loved seeing this so much that it gave me a lot of inspiration. Big plans for Asset Forge, hopefully will already be able to share soon.

Announcing RimWorld update 1.7! It moves the game from Unity to the Waylith Engine, our own in-house engine.
In our tests, RimWorld runs 2-4x faster. You can try it now on the unstable beta.
Oh, and RimWorld isn’t the only game on Waylith...

Seeing where so many creative tools (Rive, Adobe, etc) have landed with their AI adoption, I dread to think what the Game UI Database could have become in the hands of someone with no love for the creative process.
The GUIDB will always champion humans, no matter what. Screw AI!

Yet again, the Game UI Database is being scraped to the point that it's getting knocked offline. Even Cloudflare's "I'm under attack" mode isn't working.
I just wanted to create a resource for real designers. I'm getting so fucking sick of this.

This is a bit of an emotional rant regarding AI in programming.
AI is getting really good at the thing I love doing.
The quality of coding AIs has went from:
-> From 'toy/gimmick' (pre 2026)
-> to 'useful tool' (gpt5/opus4.6)
-> to 'primary driving force' (opus5.5/astra/fable)
We reached the point where AI can implement complex features, maintain complex web of knowledge, verify results and create solid architecture.
Opus5.5 follows commands exactly and writes code like a champ.
Astra is amazing at computer use and 3D.
I let my bots do C# IL analysis and complex compute shader experiments. Deep techniques - I looked up to people who had this forbidden knowledge before.
Even if you - like me - like writing code by hand: it has become way too useful not to use.
I have 15+ years of experience as a developer/architect.
Yet AI is amazing for verification, automation, utility. I have so much power at my fingertips and never have been more productive.
I create wonders daily, yet:
It makes me quite sad...
In the past any time I saw a great website, an elegant system in a game, a cool shader - I thought about the ideas, people and processes.
Now it just leaves me kind of numb - 'an AI has likely done that' are the usual thoughts.
I don't think these predictions are too bold:
- We likely will barely write any more code after a couple of years - outside of sports, hobby and some hyper niche scenarios.
- Most scientific and white collar jobs will likely suffer the same fate.
I always found the industrial revolution and the horse analogy inadequate to compare it to the impact of AI.
I changed my mind.
The horse is getting replaced.
The issue is - it seems like we're the horse in this example.
PS: Don't want to end this on a sad note. Look at that cool knowledge graph. It's all sparkly and shiny. Yeah!
