The History os x86: From 4004 to 486 🔗pikuma.com/blog/history-of-x… Why is x86 little-endian? Why are registers called AX, BX, CX, and DX? Why do DOS addresses use the format A000:0000, and why does the modern PC still wakes up pretending to be a chip from 1978?

C's Flexible Integer Sizes were Not a Mistake: 🔗pikuma.com/blog/c-integer-si… I thought it was a good idea to write a blog post on the whole C fixed-size integers that we briefly spoke about yesterday. I believe this will be a good future resource for beginners.

Had to redesign the website a fair bit. I went with an early 00's plastic look. It was hard to design a navbar theme with the giant stone background. Also because I used a large jpg it devoured memory on old machines. Now everythings a gif and loads much faster on DOS etc..

My website viewed from the Arachne web browser. I've made great progress on it. Not super happy with the navbar text but at least it's something to work with. Also not sure why Arachne cuts off the navbar image. Oddly it does not load the other table images either. But gifs work!

After two days of hard work I finally managed to fully convert the tutorials over from web archive to my site. I am really glad I found and converted them. They load so much faster on my servers. Link below! #art #retro #tutorial #tutorials #arttutorials

Painting Hair Tutorial By Jezebel. I almost have all of these archived. Just a few more left to do! Honestly so many really great tutorials/guides lost to time :/. Not even @waybackmachine could save them all sadly. Link below! #art #retro #tutorial #tutorials #artutorials

Re-writing my website in HTML4 no CSS. The website loads in Arachne quite well though I can see some adjustments I may need to make. Website is designed for 800x600 min. I have a great deal of misc things to clean up. But overall this is looking great!

Decided to show off more of my book collection. Every single red/blue book for GL1.x. I honestly thought the GL1.0 book(s) was a myth until I came across it. Every search lead me to the GL1.1 book for some reason. GL1 book never showed up. Tagging @pikuma #retro #books #opengl

Assembly was used a fair bit in the 70s/80s and into the 90s. Still is in memory limited and/or performance critical area's(FFMPEG). That aside it's scary to think a programmer would stop reading and thinking on software others will use.
I might never look the source again. It was nearly a half century ago that I stopped looking at assembly because I trusted the compiler to get it right. This feels like that.

Takes like that is why so many are annoyed and skeptical of AI. Ah yes let's just black box trust an LLM to do it all for us. Rather than stopping problems early we'll stop them as they happen.

Made a shield for some more practice! Honestly came out better than I thought it would. Thinking tomorrow I will add some front reinforcement perhaps. Or fix the handles! Still GL1 as well Polycount: 516 Texture Res: 512x512 #lowpoly #art #retro #gamedev #opengl #gaming

I threw that hammer from earlier into a GL1 engine I've been tinkering with on and off again. Came out pretty good actually. Lighting is sampled from the skybox. Polycount: 218 Texture Res: 512x512 #lowpoly #art #retro #gamedev #opengl #gaming
