All I want for Christmas is for the @GCRTA Blue Line to connect @Shakersquare to University Circle @inthecircle & the Cleveland Clinic via light rail subway. Adelbert Rd alignment best serves @cwru & University Hospital. Car-free/light connection from housing to jobs & services!

Now that Taylor Waddell has earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley, he is rapidly working toward his doctorate in the field of BART-themed Halloween costume studies. We are ready to bestow a diploma on this postdoc, posthaste.

I want every dog owner to hear this: every dog who has violently attacked me, someone I know, or a dog I was walking had an owner that assured me this never happens and their dog is safe. Your assessment of your own dog means nothing to me. I don’t trust you to evaluate your dog’s safety. Just put it on a damn leash, and don’t be a tiny woman with a dog that can easily overpower you. I don’t care how well you “know your dog”. That’s what every owner of a shitty dog says.
I genuinely do think there are a lot of basically good people who have never really thought about the ways in which they are behaving badly as dog owners, because nobody ever really calls them out for it. If your dog is ever off leash, you are being antisocial and behaving badly. If your dog ever jumps on somebody who didn’t specifically ask for that to happen, then you are behaving antisocially (even if the dog is just being “friendly”). If you have an invisible fence in your yard, but your dog comes running right up to the line at full speed only to stop at the last minute and bark at everybody who walks by, then you are behaving antisocially. Honestly, even behind a fence, this is an aggressive and annoying imposition on anybody walking by. If somebody has ever respond with fear or annoyance at something your dog has done and you’ve reflexively protested, “oh don’t worry, he won’t hurt you” or “he’s friendly” then that’s antisocial behavior. (You should just simply say, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have done that, I won’t let it happen again” and then you should work to actually make it not happen again. Telling people not to worry, that you think your dog is just peachy, is bad behavior.) This is all bad behavior. It’s all antisocial. And I have these experiences with dogs and their owners routinely. This is all extremely common stuff.

WSJ front page: American roads becoming deadlier for peds Austin has long req’d 25’ of clear fire access, the standard fire code requires 20’. Wider streets encourage dangerous speeds We need to build fire trucks around the city we want, not build our city around fire trucks
Less than 5% of fire department calls are for fires and yet, the FDs insist on an 18-ton truck and four person crew to attend a 78 y/o woman with chest pain. At this point, fire trucks are mostly branding. FDs have become a spectacularly expensive EMS service. Time for reform

Remember who and what you're voting for this year could make all these passenger rail routes happen:

It totally kicks ass that I can get on a train in Albuquerque at 2:19pm, ride the 60 miles to Santa Fe in comfort, hit the George RR Martin Sky Railways scenic RR, have a great meal, and catch the 9pm train back to ABQ. What a day! And it started in CLE, flying through ORD

It would be so great to have regional rail in Ohio. If New Mexico can make it work, we should too

The fietsvlonder (bike platform) has been reshaping Rotterdam streets for a decade. It swaps one car parking space for a temporary structure that accommodates a dozen bicycles. If successful after a few months, the curb is permanently rebuilt, and it moves to the next location.

a car lane on a city street moves somewhere between 600 and 1,600 people an hour. a protected bike lane can move 7,500. a bus lane can do 8,000. we keep picking the option with the worst numbers and calling everyone who notices an ideologue

Fareless transit doesn't redistribute wealth from the rich to the working class. It redistributes transit's inherently finite operating budget away from running service.

Construction on the new platform at the Sandusky Amtrak station (SKY) is well underway. We have a beautiful historic station, but the platform & boarding experience left a lot to be desired. I’m glad it’s finally getting upgraded & will be ADA accessible.

That every report from state fire marshal’s offices or similar claiming single stair buildings are a safety risk depends on pretending European countries* don’t 1) exist and 2) have better fire safety kind of gives the game away. Plus the fact that that they never contain data or statistics, just feelings and false claims on the intent in allowing them. Whereas studies using actual research methods, including fire engineers in their work, keep finding otherwise. *They also require pretending Seattle and New York City don’t exist.

This bears repeating: Blue-collar workers — the ostensible beneficiaries — have swung from +3 on the Trump tariffs to -22 over the course of the past year. Check out the full results from @InnovateEconomy’s American Worker Survey below. 👷‍♂️📝👇
A poll conducted in August 2025 found that blue-collar workers supported the tariffs by a narrow margin. Now, that same segment of the population has turned decisively against Trump's tariffs: 58 % oppose them, compared to just 36 % who support them. reason.com/2026/10/15/even-b…

Am I the only one who thinks it’s insane that we allow two stroke engine leaf blowers to operate in residential areas? Why do so many otherwise sensible people not recognize the extreme externality of that noise? On some of the most beautiful days of the year it’s practically impossible to be outside without exposure to 75-80db of droning noise.
